To be frank, I think you've been misled by not reading the article properly ;) You're probably over-thinking the 'consequences' - however, the bottom line is always read the T&C's.

Not really answering your question, but are you indifferent to how and when you get a return on investment? e.g. if the outcome was a $50k ROI, would you care if that came in the form of capital gains or positive yield?

Like Lenny, I've never been into the Etihad lounge. I prefer the NZ lounge to the SQ one - specifically, the outlook, natural light and space (and the coffee).

This looks to be the same as the seat map on SeatGuru, albeit 'flipped'. If it were me, I'd stay where you are (22J) or even choose the bulkhead seat in the middle for the extra legroom and ability to get in/out easily (plus it's not right next to the toilets)...

+1 for Mattg's advice. I wouldn't have thought this would be a problem. If you're concerned about payment not being accepted, and assuming you're based in AUS, try purchasing the DPS-SYD ticket first. If it fails, then you're not left holding SYD-DPS tix.

Hotel Mercure Paris Terminus Nord. I recommend it for the convenience and because I'm an Accor member. That aside, it's a pretty vanilla 3.5* international hotel.
