I am not CE, but I would highly recommend writing to request that the additional points be credited for overseas spend. The calculation method they use to fix the problem appears to be somewhat, how should I say, generous. And repeatable.

Nobody would dispute it is worth $400 in a case like that. The problem is when people cannot find a use like that, or have to compromise to do so. I used a $200 credit a couple of years back for a five-night Hilton booking when I had Diamond status, got no status benefits, and enjoyed two...

It is so simplistic and generalized as to be useless in practice. It all depends entirely on where you want to fly and the airlines in question. I buy both AA miles and LifeMiles, and get good value out of both.
