I think they are treating it as a new flight - and crediting the old one towards the cost. Because initial flight was 2 leg, new flight is 3 legs. Only consolation is I'll get more status credits out of it.. but I didn't have to use points. Other lesson learnt - I'm not upgrading work flights...

Damn, anything under 24 hours they take the points off you. They said I lose the 16,000 points totally and my new flight will become Economy... Expensive! Next time I will refuse work if they ask to change at short notice again.. lesson learned.
