    Searching for QF Classic Rwards

Just ring Qantas. They are able to quickly search across many airlines and different dates and airports. If it costs you a few dollars for their help, it's worth it to cut out all the hassles. ( I still do my initial searches online, but in the end always phone them for the final award bookings.)

280K RTW trip 2018 how soon can I find reward seats

Left it a bit late for March? I'm normally chasing those elusive J seats within minutes of their release. Found it just as easy to phone Qantas and ask them to find them for me. You can hold off and wait until all possible airlines release seats, but you may miss out. I usually find it better to...

Don't know why anybody would pay to travel QF PER-SIN when Scootbiz is almost the same price.

    OneWorld RTW 140k/280k - $Dollar Cost

Last year completed a J RTW for about $1250. Transited through LHR but didn't stop - this seems to avoid higher taxes. Included EK flights so points used were about 300k. For two short flights, didn't bother with longer around-the-countryside award legs and just used cheap short-duration direct...

    Inflation of frequent flyer points

I do this often. Trick is to first find a Red E-deal fare that has a J award available, then pay for the red e-deal and immediately you receive the email, upgrade to J. As I result I've always flown Transcon in J over the last few years. Great use of points. Do it as early as possible though to...

Planning my first all-points first class trip

Never have been a WP, now only Silver, but never had any problems with obtaining an J award flight that eventually gets me to where I want to go. May not be a direct route and may be on a different day, but a day or two extra at a great overseas destination is not a problem.

Planning my first all-points first class trip

Looking back over this thread you've received some really great advice. Perhaps I could add that if you cannot obtain your exact requirements, consider other flight paths, travelling to airports close to your desired destination (you can always complete the last leg with a low-cost flight or...

Planning my first all-points first class trip

The folks at Qantas are quite happy to tell you the exact date and time when you can first access an award - they have a calculator program on hand to assist in this process. Remember that the Qantas website doesn't show all possible OneWorld award flights, and even Qantas have to do some...

Planning my first all-points first class trip

This sounds about right, as I had to wait a couple of weeks to add Emirates flights to my last J RTW. IIRC, American Airlines is also about 340 days.

Planning my first all-points first class trip

The time can be important as J award seats on popular routes can vanish in the first minute after becoming available. Last time I checked the time was around midnight AEST - other folks will provide a more definite time.

    Inflation of frequent flyer points

OK, firstly you can't book QF 365 days ahead - it's something like 353 days. Ring QF and they will tell you, or folks here can advise. Then make sure you book in the first minute they become available - I think that's around midnight EST. Again, QF or folks here can advise. Don't try to do it...

    Inflation of frequent flyer points

Soon departing on my next award flight, this time J RTW for only $1200. Regularly fly Aust. transcon in J, usually by upgrading Red eDeals. Have travelled to USA before in J using points. And no, I don't have a large earning power because I'm now retired and I don't have much status. So it IS...

Qatar Airways - how do they treat QFF status PAX and oneworld elites in general

Flew PER-LHR with QR in J last year - absolutely fantastic - walks all over QF J. Even the older 777 J seats were really good. The food service, where you can choose what you like when you like is great, and the lounges at Doha and LHR were incredible. Would most definitely fly them again.

Flying cheap / in higher classes - sounds like too much work.

Having recently booked our first J RTW using points for about $1200 each, and regularly upgrading my transcon flights to J every time with points, I believe that collecting points for flight awards is a no-brainer. But as others have said, it's difficult convincing others to do the same. I've...

    Another one bites the dust.

I stopped chasing status some time ago, when I realised that I could still obtain good seats (e.g. "Emerald City" on the QF 380) if I paid for them, even when purchasing discounted J. And since I mostly fly J these days, I don't have to worry about obtaining lounge access anywhere. Another good...

How do you get discount J ?

Can I suggest not focusing on your final destination and looking for cheaper fares to other airports close by. For example, a couple of years ago we wanted to travel to Ottawa which was selling for 8-10k. However, we jumped at a Companion sale to New York for about 6k (similar to the current...

    Best use of qantas FFpoints

Also, if we're talking about the best use of QFF points, then I often book PER-SYD or PER-MEL flights as a cheap Red-eDeal, but first check to see if J awards are possible on the same flight. When the Y booking is confirmed, usually about 1-2 hours to receive the confirmation email, then I jump...

    Best use of qantas FFpoints

If I can add my experience when booking two J award flights PER-LAX some years ago, I phoned Qantas in the first minute that the award flights were released - from memory this was midnight EST. Even then, the SYD-LAX award flights were already taken. For the return leg booked later, when I...

Seeking advice on Eurail Travel passes

For that spare day, here's a thought: Between Zurich and Salzburg, divert off to the fairy-tale Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria. Go via Bregenz, Lindau around the end of Lake Bodensee, up and over a very scenic mountain pass on a single rail track. Then around Biessenhofen, jump off and catch...
