Article: Great Value Turkish Airlines Round-the-World Fares

We travelled in J from Singapore to Madrid return with transits at Istanbul. Flight was good, food was excellent with plenty of flavour. The new Istanbul airport is vast and a stopover is probably the best way to go and Istanbul is a beautiful city.

House Swapping - any recommended sites or experience?

Been thinking of this for a while and interested to hear how it works, or doesn't, for you. And, what is your criteria for rejection - in polite terms 😉

Why You Should NOT Book flights with Booking.com or GoToGate.com

I once asked a small service provider whether it would be better to book directly with her (same state,) and she was adamant about preferring the booking to go through a third party. It gives both parties some recourse in the event of no show/cancellation/disagreement. I book directly with...

Trieste, Padua and Vicenza and Ljubljana

Ljubljana as you've probably read is a lovely city as is the rest of Slovenia. Recommend the old town to stay and also driving around Slovenia if possible. It can be done as a series of day trips if you hire a car. Can't remember the name of the hotel. Trieste is one of those places where...

Why I'm unlikely to ever "Cruise" (At least on a large ship)

That's helpful, didn't occur to me, thank you. Any other tips other than the usual promulgations from travel sites.

Why I'm unlikely to ever "Cruise" (At least on a large ship)

I'm one of the "never" until looking at Norway for next year. Hurtigren seem to do interesting little side cruises up the coast e.g Bergen to Trondheim. I get seasick easily and it's ocean so don't want to go for more than a few days. Plus the trains are good for the interior.

Received a mobile call on Melbourne cup day with call back message telling me $1500 was about to be transferred in foreign currency and to call. Needless to say I didn't.

What's the most obscure airport you've visited?

Not really obscure but different: Paro Intl in Bhutan (fun watching the mountains on the way past) MGW Morgantown in West Virginia, more challenging because of the aircraft we were in.

    Virgin Australia Involuntary Cabin Downgrade

This happened to us last year, Hobart to Perth. Informed of aircraft change to all economy seats, we were disappointed. No notice of refund in fare differences. I contacted TA who claimed the difference in fares which was not a lot and they spent some time hassling to get it. Wasn't impressed...

How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Just had breakfast in the parmelia executive lounge. Very nice selection of fruits, yoghurt, Camembert, smoked salmon , cold cuts, 5 hot dishes and I heard someone request as additional poached eggs which wasn't a problem for staff. No baked beans but bearing in mind the poached eggs request was...

    Advice for Swiss airlines

To follow up on the Credit card Insurance; I have been advised that the age (over 80 years) of my Mum does apply to any insurance claim we make and so, no luck there. And, to follow up on the booking. I have used airline on-line booking internet for previous trips and havent had a problem in...

    Advice for Swiss airlines

I did look for refundable tickets and all accommodation/sia/Iberia were or at least with fees. However, at the time of booking last year, airlines were still hurting from covid and either didn't offer refundable or were so exorbitant I took the less cautious option. Obviously got caught but...
