Qatar airways to join Oneworld on 30th October 2013

Re: Qatar joining Oneworld date? As I said above, it will no doubt change when the new airport is opened and everything is in the same terminal. At the moment it's all done with colour-coded baggage tags and boarding pass wallets. If you get a burgundy tag you're allowed on the bus to the...

Qatar airways to join Oneworld on 30th October 2013

Re: Qatar joining Oneworld date? It's a bit confusing at Doha, with separate terminals for arrival / departure and transit. Neither of the terminals have aerobridges - it's all done with buses. The premium transit terminal has a business lounge and a first class lounge. The business lounge is...

Problem at SYD? [UA flight blows two tyres on takeoff]

If the problem was only tyres, why didn't it continue to its destination? Presumably the emergency services at LAX are up to par?

Qatar 788 Dreamliner from PER ?

Dummy bookings as far ahead as October 2014 are still showing 777. So it looks like there are no imminent plans to bring the 787 to Perth.

What's the emptiest international flight ex or to Oz you've been on?

NCE to MXP on Qatar earlier this year. SWMBO and I were the only pax in J on an A330. Service was superb, with the staff falling over each other to serve us. About 10 years ago I was one of about a dozen pax down the back of a BA 747 LHR - SIN. I was pretty sick at the time and snagged a row of...

Things to see and do in Russia (Moscow, St petersburg and...)

It was quite a long time ago, but Insider Tour | St. Petersburg Shore Excursions & City Tours provided an excellent personal driver-and-guide service in St Petersburg. It was excellent having a guide just for the two of us, with the car waiting whenever we needed it. (The driver also looked...

Qatar Privelege Club Q-points (status) and Oneworld Qantas/Emirates

Given the QF/EK relationship, that is likely to be published at the last possible time. Qatar have published rates for a bunch of OW and non-OW airlines (AA, NH, OZ, BA, G3, ME, US, VS) at Our Partners

Red Bull Air Racing is back

Shame it's not coming back to Perth. The airstrip at Langley Park right in the CBD was a unique feature - and right outside my window. Langley Park was also the site for the WRC Rallye Australia for many years until the state government withdrew its subsidy.

QANTAS booking PER-JFK via Emirates & Dubai instead of LAX?

Just had a look on Kayak - they have CX as cheaper than QF, EK and QR. One stop via Hong Kong.

Qatar airways to join Oneworld on 30th October 2013

Re: Qatar joining Oneworld date? A dummy booking PER - DOH for 23 October shows QF flights on EK metal via DXB. Similarly for 20 Nov - ie after QR has joined OW - only EK flights shown on the QF site. Prices are commparable within a hundred dollars or so for equivalent fare buckets, but EK...

    Advice about Qatar air

PER-DOH and DOH-IAL are both on 77L metal. There's no bar on board these. (I believe there used to be a bar on the A340 but it was later removed). The J class on the 777 is "quite nice" but not ground breaking. The seats are in a 2-2-2 configuration, fully lie flat with massage functions etc...

A first timers trip to WA

February tends to be very hot - I'd choose south and coastal rather than inland. Depending on when in February, school holidays will still be on and availability and prices will be at a premium. Try Busselton - Yallingup - Margaret River - Cape Leeuwin - Valley of the Giants - Denmark - Albany...

    Travelling in and around Paris

It's one of those things you have to do, but having done it you wonder why? I thought it was poor value. Very expensive (part of a package deal with Cityrama - best avoided). We had poor seating and poor sightlines being unable to see the whole stage. The show itself was over-long and very...

    Travelling in and around Paris

Paris is one of my favourite cities, but I haven't spent nearly enough time there. If you're buying any sort of package deal (including Eiffel Tower, river cruises etc), chances are it will be with Cityrama (even if you book with somebody else). Check their Tripadvisor page before you commit...
