They both need each other in the short- medium term and QF has a substantial stake that they don't want to write to zero. Totally might be wrong, but I see a high probability of an extension at higher prices.

Much cheaper J fares to Europe out of most of SEAsia.. Possible awards up or LCCs including Jetstar, Scoot and AirAsia. Many are happy to do an economy flight for the daytime flight to Asia... Albeit harder to get daytime flights on the return.

Agreed the typical $200 extra for Business Max if you are already buying Business is generally pretty good value on a $/SC basis. I've generally had pretty good on time experiences with JQ (both domestic, international, now closed Asia). And my one substantial displeasure on delays on JQ7...
