    Made any travel mistakes lately?

Travelled to Dallas on December 4th last year. 27 degrees, sun shining, such good weather for this time of year, such a shame I am only here for a couple of days I thought to myself. Then the ice storm struck! Temperature dropped to -1 in a matter of hours and turned the road network into a...

QF94 Turned Back - Burst Water Pipe

Re: QF94 (1 July) return How does one air out the A380 anyway? You can't exactly open up all the windows!

Won over a million VA points - how should I spend them?

Just had a look at some Any Seat Business points flights and you can buy yourself a one way ticket to Los Angeles next week for a cool 970,000 points! You'll have to find your own way home though as a million is just not going to cut it i'm afriad... It's a somewhat more reasonable 90,000 if...

Is the 747 on its last legs?

According to Wikipedia, the A380 has had zero orders this year (-3). So perhaps all 4 engined jets are on their last legs!

Va8 / va7 gone very 'pear shape' yet again

Surely VA can do without the SYD-AUH service and open up some flexibility on the LAX routes.

CX wants more capacity to Aus

OOL-HKG would be great! Scoot seem to be doing well with OOL-SIN, so it's not as silly as one might think...

    Sabre down globally

As someone who works in the IT industry, it seems odd that a critical system like Sabre could have a worldwide outage like this. If I were building a system like this I would set up independent systems in each region and perhaps for each airline. These systems would then all communicate with...

Is there a doctor on the plane?

I wonder how many with medical conditions report them as required by the conditions of carriage. For example, showing signs of the flu is classed as "not suitable for travel" with most airlines.

    Best way to accumulate sectors?

I understand why they added the requirement, and I guess my point is if it were absolutely necessary it would be been there since day 1. It's not like there were any additional benefits added that required a stricter criteria.

    Best way to accumulate sectors?

I guess the reason I am with Velocity is they are the only rewards program that covers all of the airlines I frequently use. Anyway, i'm on the Gold Coast and need 6 "eligible sectors" by November. I'm a bit confused by the wording on the terms and conditions: "Eligible Sector means a flight...

    Best way to accumulate sectors?

I have enough status credits to maintain Platinum this year but I don't have enough sectors as I travel mostly on partner airlines. So are there some cost effective ways to earn the required sectors? Or I am doomed to be stuck on Silver from now on? (For what it is worth, this new sector...

Airlines slow to pass on lower fuel cost charges to passengers

Airlines typically hedge fuel prices for years in advance. This means they effectively pay the same price for fuel today as they did perhaps 6 months ago, regardless of what the daily oil price happens to be. To determine if fuel surcharges are unfair or not you have to look at the long term oil...

787 fleet emergency landings and now grounded following battery fires

Re: ANA grounds 787 fleet following latest emergency landing Yeah, but given the size of the aircraft, a few extra KGs in the battery pack is not going to make if any difference to fuel economy, which is really the whole reason for the aircraft in the first place. It just doesn't seem like the...

787 fleet emergency landings and now grounded following battery fires

Re: ANA grounds 787 fleet following latest emergency landing Ironically, the Prius uses NiMH instead, a safer alternative at the expense of some weight. Not sure what lead to the decision to use Lithium Ion in the 787 as the 777 uses NiCad and they seem to work just fine.

Flying Jan 12th - what to expect?

Wow, I was just able to look up a VA Long Haul (LAX) booking made months ago through a travel agent from that site. Seat Map is viewable, though I can't see if my seat allocation was entered in or not. So far so good Sabre!

Gold Coast to Las Vegas non stop

It's not impossible, but still highly unlikely. Scoot already has semi regular flights on a 777-200 to SIN with ~370 pax. A three class 777-300ER is only slightly more than that.

    New benefits on Virgin America

Which seems odd to me because every flight I've been on with VX has been full, including first class. First class isn't cheap with VX either, sometimes it is double the cost of Delta for example. So if it isn't making money by now my guess is the other airlines are doing even worse!

    Virgin LAX Lounge

I found the LAX lounge to be fine. In fact I found it better than expected after hearing all the reports here. Given the limited space available in T3 i'm not sure what people expect VA to do anyway? (Short of moving to the Delta terminal, which is easier said than done)

QF Sale all classes to most destinations.

Virgin Australia are price matching the BNE/SYD-LAX route too it seems.
