OK I have worked it out and am successfully posting from Chrome on my laptop. My VPN chrome extension was clearly doing something despite being turned off. I removed its access to this site and now it works.

Thanks for your replies. I’m using Chrome, with uBlock Origin. Not sure if I can add to whitelist, there’s just a big on/off button you press and it remembers what site you set it to off for.
