    Two-way Trans-Tasman Bubble starting 19 April 2021

I had booked flights to ZQN in early August a few weeks ago when the bubble looked imminent, to use up my VA flight credit from last year's cancelled snowboarding trip. Only for them to announce they would not be resuming NZ flights until October... So now looking at AirNZ or Qantas. Nice to...

    A seven-hour scenic flight around Australia ?

It looks like they blocked out the middle section in Y and Y+ - probably to assist with social distancing as much as making sure pax aren't moving around

Virgin Australia to be sold to Bain Capital

Is there any chance Cyrus could team up with the bondholders to put a kind of hybrid deal to the upcoming meeting of creditors?

I submitted my manually produced statement from Velocity on 27 May (after sending everything else on 18 May) and just got a message via the contact centre that it had been received and my status match request was now being reviewed. They said I would receive an email once it was processed.

On 18 May I sent a scan of my physical membership card and pdf versions of my activity from the website. On 23 May I received an email about a service request via the QR online service centre. The message there confirmed receipt of the scan of my membership card but asked for statements that...

Ukraine International Airlines PS752 crashes in Iran [confirmed shot down]

I never said they were fired by Trump. Although his half-witted plays to his domestic base can have international ripple effects, as we've seen.

Ukraine International Airlines PS752 crashes in Iran [confirmed shot down]

From ABC News: "The Boeing 737-800, which belongs to Ukraine International Airlines, crashed near Imam Khomeini International Airport and burst into flames after a fire struck one of its engines, said Qassem Biniaz, a spokesman for Iran's Road and Transportation Ministry. The pilot then lost...

Ukraine International Airlines PS752 crashes in Iran [confirmed shot down]

It does appear to have happened around the same time as Iran's missile strikes. I think it's more likely that it was accidentally shot down (or bombed) than mechanical issues. Although I don't know that the Iranians would own it? I've felt a bit squiffy about flying over the Middle East (and...

Ukraine International Airlines PS752 crashes in Iran [confirmed shot down]

Latest speculation is that the Iranian missile defence shot it down by accident, as it appears to have happened around the same time Iran was firing at the allied bases in Iraq. Does seem strange (but not impossible?) that it would already be a fireball before descending to crash if it wasn't...

    International Driving Permits/Licences

You definitely need one in South Korea (or Jeju, at least). When I was there in April, there was a big sign at the rental car counter that essentially said "No IDP = No car". The person at the counter also carefully checked my licence against the IDP (and my credit card). I usually keep mine...

    Luggage forwarding services

I used luggageforward many years ago (2007) after I'd gone a bit nuts at the outlets in Barstow, California ;) I found the service to be reasonably-ish priced and had no issues with the delivery. At the time I paid US$385 for a 30kg suitcase, which included $30 for $1500 insurance, to be...

Free 14th “free stuff” – x2 QF Lounge Passes

I'd like to put my hand up for your lovely offer as well Matt :) I recently gave away two passes myself. I had been hoping to find someone to swap with me as mine were expiring on 12 October 2019 and I wanted to give them to my mum and her bestie. They're going on one of those TripADeal...

General Estate Planning issues (Wills, PoA, AHDs)

Actually, that's not technically true. In NSW, if you are legally married to one person (i.e. separated but not legally divorced) and living in a de facto relationship with another person, the law treats you as having two spouses and each spouse is entitled to a one-half share of the estate...

General Estate Planning issues (Wills, PoA, AHDs)

Sometimes it's that they don't have anyone else they trust to do it - no close friends or family, or family/beneficiaries are based overseas, etc. Like many state government departments, too much work + not enough (good) staff = poor client outcomes.
