Understandable but should only apply to new bookings. I have made some bookings where there is a reasonable chance that I will need to change dates. I did this knowing I could change for free. It is not good to change conditions on a booking after it is made.

I regularly get earlier flights when booked on Red e deals with Qantaslink from Townsville to Cairns. In my experience if you turn up to check in and there are seats available on an earlier flight they will let you take them no matter what fare class they are.
