AA's web site has never let me modify an award itinerary on hold. But you can keep calling and adding flights as they become available. Currently, AA is waiving change fees on ticketed awards as well.

This thread has been overtaken by events. Early in 2020, it was announced that AS will be joining OneWorld and that AA and AS would increase their partnership in stages prior to AS's membership in OW. This includes cross-earning FF points, reciprical elite recognition, lounge access, etc.

If the way it worked was that you only paid the higher fare amount if your upgrade clears would be one thing, but to have to pay more just to enter a lottery you won't win is silliness.

I believe JL miles can be used to upgrade AA flights, but I'm not sure of the details or if this is still in effect. I know it is possible to upgrade flights among AA, IB, and BA using miles from any of the three, but BA flights are restricted to the most expensive fare buckets, and coach only...

We enjoyed the Hyatt and they gave us a nice room. But as I lack top-tier status, we had to upgrade the room to get lounge access. At Hiltons I get lounge and restaurant breakfast as a Diamond.

Would be nice. I stayed at the Hyatt last time, and an apartment the time before that.

If carry-ons that fit in bins or under seats are not a problem, then why weigh them? A better approach would be to perhaps pay better attention to bins that are left open during flight or bins that are not properly latched.

QF, as do other airlines, has a size limit for carryons. Enforce that if they must enforce something, as at least there's some logic to it.

How is allowing a larger wheeled carry-on filled with light stuff while prohibiting a smaller wheeled carry-on filled with heavy stuff helpful? If you want to make space in the bin and speed up boarding, enforce a size limit. Weight and size are two different things.
