Earning Platinum status with all flights in Economy

Had two years as P1 (when it first came out) based mainly on domestic Y - although it was flexi but no points. No DSC. The record was 7 sectors in a week. So it can be done. Achieved LTG in 5 years. Crazy times. Never again. Happy with Platinum now but still 26000 SC away from LTP so shows you...

    The Enhanced GHA Discovery program

Has been a real mixed bag with Oaks. I don’t bother with them anymore unless I need a 3rd brand for renewal.

Europcar caught scamming customer at Sydney Airport

Interestingly my company (>6500 staff in Australia) only offers Europcar as a last resort (ie manual request) - was told by our travel manager there were a disproportionately high number with claims and insurance issues compare to others. Wonder if this is related?

Virgin Australia to Reconfigure 737 Fleet - Spend $110M

Rarely it is many times. Quite often the flex Y costs more than the J seat. So by that account maybe they should be entitled to use the loo too. Just don’t give VA that idea.

    Accor "Welcome" Gifts for Elites?

Stayed at Mercure in Orange (rates above $240 per night) and my welcome amenity as a gold was a lovely wrapped Mercure Soap bar, sewing kit and single use shoe cleaner pad. Two of which items were in the room anyway...

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

Disagree there - if we count NZ as quasi-domestic, there are about 40 QF WPs that acheive it via domestic travel where I work ! Some have never been overseas before for business or pleasure. I even acheived Plat1 on all domestic Y one year, so I am sure there are plenty at VA who do the same.

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

I think this is what the whole exercise is- you spend the money with us you get rewarded. Simple. Multileg regional J discount flights with family pooling travellers (who let’s face were big braggers on here) have just been given their marching orders to the Jetstar waiting area it appears.

    PGR Program Changes

Thank for reaching out to them via FB. I tried to cancel a booking, but that system doesn’t work either. Along with having no booking reference (emails stopped months ago) I’ve emailed hotels but even they hardly ever reply. Essentially Ive stopped booking with them (including quite a few...

    PGR Program Changes

Agree - such a difficult company to engage with. Haven’t received any booking confirmations or cancellations for months - multiple emails (most no response) but looks like finally sorted. Now with the EVT rewards no passwords work and no response again. Can’t access or cancel any bookings or...

Hyatt Regency Perth to close after 36 years

I’m staying here at the moment enjoying one last stay. The staff and service have been excellent. I am still bewildered at the move by the owners. A hotel of this size with grand internal atrium proportions and full 5 star facilities (with cheap and easy parking) are rare these days. Yes it...

Free World of Hyatt Guest of Honour award

In a similar situation - have one last stay in August, but lots of bookings for the next 8 months will fall away. Very disappointed by this, especially being about 82% to life time

Targeted Velocity Double SCs or Points Offer [July 2024]

Looks like every Australian and their dog will have status with VA soon. It is almost too easy to obtain with family pooling, constant promotions, status matches and lower qualifications levels and more status credits earned on flights. A no brainer for a moderate level flyer to get perks...

Hyatt Regency Perth to close after 36 years

Was one of my favourite hotels - spent hundreds of nights there. Some great staff over the years. Many ups and downs. Funny how some hotels you just connect with. Must be the faded but enduring architectural symmetry from my childhood era! Was sad to see its slow decline however. Will be missed...

    New controversial work travel policy

2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment styles rooms are usually ok if both parties agree (and know each other well) but otherwise a big NO from our company policy. The way our Australian part of the business has positioned this was 'our budget our rules', and recently as there is so much focus on worker...
