Downgraded from Business Class on Qantas due to "tech crew" [pilot] Travel Requirements

They may be kids in the video but it highlights how confirmation bias doesn't allow some adults to think outside the box when it comes to what a pilot looks like eg can't be young and boisterous in the lounge. If they'd been older and quiet in the lounge it would've been more believable that...

You know you are a frequent flyer when ...

Looks like they're almost trying to go to Honolulu except QF3 now ops SYD-AKL-JFK & it's now QF103 SYD-HNL. Of course there's always the LCC option of JQ1 MEL-HNL or JQ3 SYD-HNL. 🙀

Downgraded from Business Class on Qantas due to "tech crew" [pilot] Travel Requirements

Just because pilots are in economy doesn't mean they're on duty travel - or even work for QF. Many staff, both pilots & flight attendants, commute eg if they reside in BNE but operate out of SYD in which case they would be travelling at own expense on leisure staff travel. If on leisure travel...

Seat selection not available…but it was a few hours ago?!

You'll probably be able to view the seat map in Expert Flyer. Sounds like you got in and selected seats at the right moment.

Downgraded from Business Class on Qantas due to "tech crew" [pilot] Travel Requirements

They probably had to get to MEL asap to operate a flight because maybe the tech crew on that flight couldn't operate it for any number of reasons. It's possible the crew originally scheduled to operate the flight were out of hours or stuck in a regional port if the aircraft they were operating...

Downgraded from Business Class on Qantas due to "tech crew" [pilot] Travel Requirements

It's in the award that duty travel pilots travel in the highest class of travel that is offered on the flight so if the highest cabin in J and the cabin is full then commercial pax unfortunately get downgraded. Another scenario where it can happen if there's a cancelled flight so if J was full...

Downgraded from Business Class on Qantas due to "tech crew" [pilot] Travel Requirements

If they were paxing crew on duty travel they wouldn't have had a standby boarding pass so at the very least they would have been in a confirmed economy seat but probably insisted on their entitlement of duty travel which is to travel in J.

Qantas doesn't care about priority boarding

FYI was this on a mainline B737 or A330 flight? I feel for the QLink departure agents who do the boarding on the E190 flights as both F/A's remain onboard. It's chaotic enough just overseeing the departure of a flight never mind have to do all the boarding by yourself too! I don't envisage...

QF Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Are you P1? That's one major benefit of getting points upgrades that far in advance so you don't lose out to pax booking full J fares at the last minute. 👍

Qantas to shut airport service desks, force customers onto self-service

There's a lot of people who aren't very tech savvy who get checked in by a family member who sends them a text with a screen shot of the barcode which they can scan at the kiosks if they need to print out a bag tag & scan at the auto bag drop. 🎒 Many people wouldn't have a clue what NFC is or...

Qantas to shut airport service desks, force customers onto self-service

I don't mean the latest roll out but these bag tag printer machines that have been at PER for years along with the regular kiosks they have in the Eastern States.

Qantas to shut airport service desks, force customers onto self-service

Are these bag tag machines the same ones they've had in PER for ages in addition to the regular kiosks?

Qantas to shut airport service desks, force customers onto self-service

I don't believe they'll be any changes there but the real elephant in the room is why the ability to check yourself in on the kiosk is no longer possible on the new kiosks. There are plenty of people without smartphones or who aren't confident using the internet who would checkin at the airport...

QANTAS carry on question - helmet as the personal item?

I've seen ADF helmets taken onboard in their padded khaki carry bag and nobody's batted an eyelid so I would definitely have it in a carry on bag of some sort as opposed to just the helmet in your hand. If an item isn't allowed onboard the crew would have the final say - a chat transcript from...

Qantas doesn't care about priority boarding

I guess the ideal situation is rope off economy lane then do Priority Boarding from the lane which has the computer where the sole F/A stands. There are no longer 5 F/A's on any flights so you will only ever get one coming up to board as there must be a minimum of 3 onboard. If there are two...

Qantas to shut airport service desks, force customers onto self-service

I took the scenario as being the same flexible fare bucket was available eg K class for the original ticketed flight where there were K class seats available on the new flight pax wanted to move to so no adcol applicable nor re-issue of eticket required. In that case pax should be able either...

Qantas to shut airport service desks, force customers onto self-service

Staff at the checkin counters can put a paper tag on your bag and send it off. I'm not even sure that the Qtag scanners on the checkin counters even work anymore. When using the automated bag drop make sure you only have a Qtag or paper tag - not both, otherwise the system may try to charge you...
