Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

Cashback debit cards are fairly common in the UK, but the really big thing here is bank switching offers. Banks will pay a sign up bonus equivalent to $300-$400 if you switch your account to them using a service that closes your old account and redirects your old account number and any direct...

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

Card surcharges have been illegal in the UK and Europe since 2018, and there's still plenty of cards with points bonuses and cashback offers.

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

The media chase clicks and ratings, so for whatever reason they must think there’s not much interest in sticking with the story.

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

Unfortunately it could happen to anyone anywhere. Obviously the Australian media isn’t reporting on the others, but the same group that breached Qantas also recently got into M&S, Harrods and Co-Op in the UK, then WestJet and Hawaiian Airlines, and several insurance companies in the US. They...

Optus new $50 SIM only with roaming

Through clever marketing the telcos have managed to convince most people into thinking they need huge amounts of data, and have somehow made people willing to pay extra for data they won’t need to use.

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

The most unfortunate part is that the companies that arguably do the right thing by telling their customers and continuing to communicate are the ones that get the most outrage and anger directed at them. Companies that keep it generic and only post a brief notice on their website (rather than...

Optus new $50 SIM only with roaming

The $5 daily roaming is only a reasonable deal for people who spend very short time overseas, or maybe if you need to use a very large amount of data each day. Amaysim’s roaming packs are far better value. If they changed to the daily charge I would change providers. It’s the reason I left Optus.

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

I’m another one where they seemed to get almost everything: Address Name Email address Qantas Frequent Flyer number Tier Points balance Status Credits Date of birth Phone number Very disappointing, especially things like Address, DoB and phone number which are impossible or difficult to...

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

Similar breaches by the same hackers had already happened in the UK and US, targeting loyalty schemes and getting in through outsourced call centres. Some UK retailers were hit so badly that their systems have been offline for weeks and they certainly haven’t been able to notify customers...

    Business Lounge - Under 18's

BA have the same policy officially (due to their lounges having self service alcohol at all hours of the day) but the agents generally don’t check ID and nothing on the system flags their age, so there are reports of 15-17 year olds getting in if they look at least as mature or immature as an 18...

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

I think it’s interesting to compare, I know we are scrutinising the Qantas response to this (and rightly so) but at least Qantas have put out more details than the affected US airlines.

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

I haven’t received an email from them yet either, not that it will tell me anything more than is in ABC news or elsewhere. I’m hopeful I’ve got no email from them because my data wasn’t impacted by this. But it could also mean I’m in a different ‘impacted customer’ batch which will be sent a...

    Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

2 BA flights from London to Dubai were diverted due to the events in the region. BA105 returned to LHR. BA109 went to ZRH, assuming didn’t have enough fuel to get back to LHR.

Double points on round-trip Qantas bookings from UK to Australia

I got the email for this from Qantas last week and it had a link you had to click to register before booking, but then the T&Cs don’t mention having to register. T&C’s from the email

Preferred seating charge for second passenger on same ticket?

    Airfares to US to drop?

Americans? Also Australians love to put suburb names in addresses. Whenever I get a parcel from Australia I'm amused that they always include the name of my local area, sometimes also the borough/council name, and also London on the address. In the UK most would just put "London" and the...
