    ExpertFlyer getting desperate?

One of the things I use ExpertFlyer for is searching visa information/entry requirements. That feature hasn’t been working for the past month and they’ve ignored my inquiries about when it might be restored.

    Article: When Flying Ahead Backfires

Not with Virgin Australia, but I attempted to fly ahead last Sunday on a Mexican airline and it most definitely backfired spectacularly. I was in Guadalajara and booked to fly to Mexico City on a 6pm flight with Viva. Around 11am, the city got locked down and roads started to get blockaded, so...

Qantas unveils the biggest changes to status in program history

While this is formally being removed with the retirement of Points Club, I understand that Qantas is considering bringing back the ability to earn status credits on Classic Rewards through a different mechanism. This isn't yet decided or confirmed yet.

Qantas unveils the biggest changes to status in program history

Interesting changes indeed! I've written this piece for AFF which explains in detail what's changing, as well as my thoughts on the program changes: https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/qantas-status-changes-2026/

Article: Should Airlines & Hotels Offer Last-Minute Discounts?

I do recall a few QantasLink Q300 flights with only one flight attendant, rather than the usual two. Those were all lightly loaded flights with ~20 pax onboard. I’m guessing 2 FAs would have been required if the actual passenger count was above 36?

    Jetstar 'Interested in changing?' offer

Got a similar offer for an upcoming booking with Mexican low-cost airline Viva. If I click "View Options" it goes to a page with a selection of alternative flights to choose from. I might have been interested, but the "compensation" is only in the form of Viva Cash (i.e. a voucher to use for a...

Devaluation of the IHG Diamond breakfast benefit in North America

This might just be me, but it bugs me when I have to flag down a server just to get a glass of water or orange juice. I sometimes feel like the hotel has deliberately chosen to remove these things from the buffet so that you have to be “served” - and then are expected to therefore leave a tip.

Devaluation of the IHG Diamond breakfast benefit in North America

The IHG Diamond breakfast voucher excludes “specialty drinks” but some hotels have started to interpret this in a way that I don’t think aligns with what a reasonable person would consider special. I would consider alcohol or something like a frappe to be a specialty drink, not barista coffee...

Devaluation of the IHG Diamond breakfast benefit in North America

I've noticed at a few hotels lately in North America that the breakfast voucher they give as the Diamond welcome amenity says "gratuity not included". I don't know if IHG intended for this to be the case, but at a Holiday Inn I recently stayed at in Mexico, the server brought me a bill as I was...

Have you ever had a hotel charge you for something you did not get or sign for?

While this sounds incredibly frustrating, I don't think I would resort to sending a "screaming email" or yelling at anyone to get a service issue resolved.

Velocity Chief Nick Rohrlach departs in management shakeup

Well I didn’t see this coming. Nick is an energetic and talented guy, and I’m sure he’ll find a good role elsewhere. I recall hearing incoming Velocity CEO Andrew Cleary as a guest on the Loyalty Podcast a few months ago, talking about hotel loyalty in the context of his current role at...

Not sure about the answer to your second question, but yes the drinks would also be double catered. I wouldn't expect ice to be available on the return leg.

New aviation industry ombudsman & customer rights charter in Australia

All the aviation charter and the ombudsman really does is make it easier for airline customers to enforce rights they mostly already have under existing Australian laws. I don’t understand how the airlines can be against this, but you can’t blame them for trying, I guess.
