    Qantas does Vegas direct

Planes probably much better deployed on the seasonal Rome service which has much higher seasonal demand than US. And if they had a spare aircraft seasonal services to ATH, BCN, or additional Rome frequency would probably also be better use of the aircraft than seasonal to LAS at the height of...

    Qantas does Vegas direct

Perhaps the NRL march supports the service continuing on to March, beyond the period that is normally considered the summer holidays peak period. But people aren’t going there for 9 weeks for the match and if they are (going to US that period, 9 weeks in LAS would be on very few people’s...

Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

Yes, if you close the Stans/Georgia/Azerbaijan flight path and DXB/AUH/DOH are all no go areas, you need the Red Sea. But probably the bigger problem will be demand for travel falling off a cliff if things are that dire.

Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

Not exactly sure what a technical stop in SIN would do though (in relation to ME conflict anyway) as both Sunrise and SIN-LHR routes have to really converge on threading the needle through the Stans/Azerbaijan/Georgia. If that route is closed, that makes SIN-LHR quite challenging, maybe needing...

Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

If you look at a globe rather than a flat map, it's surprising how little variation there is between the different potential options. I even wonder, if for the SYD-LHR direction, whether a easterly polar route over Alaska would be part of the planning and considered with the right...

    Qantas does Vegas direct

If Are they even chasing the "winter traffic" (skiing) or just seasonal holiday traffic? And again, not forgetting the seasonal summer traffic. I've actually got a hunch QF have some good data on traffic between LV & Aust, on which they based this decision, not just the whims of the skewed...

Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

Not sure where the most advantageous flight path (with respect to "headwinds" and "tailwinds" are, but the great circle route SYD-LHR passes over China (Chengdu), Kazakhstan, Russia (which obviously is out of the question), whilst MEL-LHR passes over Bangkok, Nepal, various Stans, Russia. One...

Melbourne Airport unveils $4.5 billion international terminal expansion

Multiple articles suggest WSI cost $5.3bn to build, runways, roadways and all. It's hard to fathom where $4.5bn is being spent. And this isn't a government "big build" project with all the grift that goes with it from both unions and the private sector, its being undertaken by a private...

Article: Have Australians Stopped Flying to the USA? Here’s What the Data Says…

If the queues aren't long MPC is useless of course. Did MPC for arrival at JFK a couple of weeks ago, area was relatively empty and there were probably only 10 or so people in the normal queue. We followed MPC instructions, which involved walking a bit further to a specific lane. Where we...

    Qantas does Vegas direct

Almost certainly these two factors moreso than anything else. I would have thought it's not that hard to understand? A seasonal flight at a time of the year when US carriers have multiple seasonal flights to Australia, it's not hard to comprehend QF doing one as well.

    Qantas does Vegas direct

About 2.5m people live in/around Vegas so there probably help with some flow in the other direction. Whilst I tend to agree with most of your comments, during the period of operation of these particular QF services, I doubt you would be "baked to a crisp" outside. Probably a more pleasant...

Six million people a year would use train to Melbourne Airport

Dunno about skybus but when heavily congested late at night, I’ve found with ride share schlepping over to the T4 pickup area can actually work well.

Six million people a year would use train to Melbourne Airport

That has been mentioned as a (the?) pathway into the CBD for the Airport train. Either way, a change at Sunshine or Footscray would allow access to the metro tunnel if the airport train is destined for loop/SX or vice versa. Yes true. Although an Arden stop would/should be quicker for those...

Six million people a year would use train to Melbourne Airport

Some of the red buses could probably now go to Arden instead of Southern X, would provide better service for central CBD, South Eastern and Western suburbs.

Six million people a year would use train to Melbourne Airport

Of course the trouble with all of the debt is the cost to service it is the problem, which is much higher now than when many of the projects were conceived.

Garuda Switch A330-300 MEL-DPS Direct Flights Back to Old Seat Layout

I guess the 2-2-2 config still beats the competition's cradle seats, so they can play around with the 330 configs they use.

    Little things I like

LTIL - after 9 nights in US nice to be home eating breakfast off China plates with metal cutlery and drinking out of glasses and tea cups rather than disposable plastic or paper plates, plastic cutlery and flimsy plastic cups.

Melbourne Airport unveils $4.5 billion international terminal expansion

Aaah, five stands, does that now mean more likely to have bus rides between the plane and the terminal? Cost prohibitive but MEL would be so much better to be like ZRH with a satellite terminal accessible by people mover to cater for long haul flights.
