This is what I do occasionally. Work travel has to be booked via 3rd party, and don't have knowledge in advance so it's impossible to take advantage of promos without self funding.

We have flights with EK for 5 pax booked in June. If we change anything, it'll be removing the overnight layover and changing that flight to a short stopover instead.

I'm in a similar boat, but I think even if the booking tool is improved it still takes knowledge of the system to redeem rewards. The average punter is still looking for J for a family of 4 from MEL/SYD to LHR during school holidays. I have doubts the tool will elicit behaviour change to fly...
