    Little things I like

LTIL - after 9 nights in US nice to be home eating breakfast off China plates with metal cutlery and drinking out of glasses and tea cups rather than disposable plastic or paper plates, plastic cutlery and flimsy plastic cups.

Melbourne Airport unveils $4.5 billion international terminal expansion

Aaah, five stands, does that now mean more likely to have bus rides between the plane and the terminal? Cost prohibitive but MEL would be so much better to be like ZRH with a satellite terminal accessible by people mover to cater for long haul flights.

Velocity Chief Nick Rohrlach departs in management shakeup

Or perhaps were pushed by Bain to follow the currently preferred US loyalty approach tying status directly to spend (except AS).

Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

Will be interesting to see what the seasonal flight times actually are for the routes on sunrise. SYD-LHR could be as long as 21.5 hrs (e.g. with seasonal conditions at the moment) , but as short as perhaps 18.5 hrs for LHR-SYD. Noting that JFK/EWR to SIN is flying an eastbound route...

Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

We paid about $1500 SGD ($1700 AUD) for our current trip to NYC in PE from SIN on SQ’s ULH. It was about $300 cheaper for the same dates (over Chinese New Year) than if we’d booked tickets to MEL on SQ in economy. The flights are definitely sold at a premium in business and for last minute...

    Jetstar reviewing Cabin Bag policy

They could of course go to Ryanair/Easyjet style approach of no weight limit on a smallish backpack but yield manage the charge to take on rollaboards.

For those interested, the Rare Millesime has reappeared in the F lounge at Changi. A welcome return if you enjoy a glass or two before your flight.

    KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes

Never, ever do these days. Not for many months. They are full enough as it is, and usually the one Australian destination that is always missing from Spontaneous Escapes. Bring on frequency #6

    Ethiopian to fly to Oz?

Distance wise remarkably similar to LAX from SYD and MEL. ADD-MEL almost same distance as SYD-LAX and vice versa.

    Virgin CNS-MEL redeye

Some how I think the target demographic for these flights is decidedly not the same as the AFF demographic (whether CNS-MEL or PER-East Coast red eyes). When I was in my 20s I would have had no issues with short redeyes. 30 years on, I don't even like long red-eyes.

QR to GRU and then local flight to GIG would be the other option, for the long way around.

short connection - what happens if I miss my second flight?

Is that Swiss via ZRH or GVA? As Swiss don't fly direct to JFK. In any instance, as long as it is on one ticket you should be protected, noting if they rebook you on UA it won't be to JFK, it would be to EWR, but they might need your OK to do that, and if known to be running late before...

Qantas Metal with AA flight number: Qantas club

Is that BNE, MEL or SYD? I can confidently say that if it is MEL, if they don't give you access to the Qantas Lounge, not a huge loss, although to be fair it is OK at breakfast times. You could use a small portion of your $700 saving to access a paid lounge such as The House, if you really...

    Hotel breakfast likes & dislikes

The clearing table thing doesn't only happen at breakfasts! I was in Marrakech last month, went to a rooftop cafe, sat down, ordered my drink and some food. After my drink arrived I took a sip, got up and went a whole 3-4 metres to the edge of the rooftop to take some photos of the city...

    Qantas does Vegas direct

As there is no outbound passport control and no need for additional security, in theory all it would physically need is some e-gates with boarding pass scanning when moving from airside in other terminals to TBIT (to prevent domestic pax from entering the area), and rules preventing exit from...

    Qantas does Vegas direct

MEX-Tokyo (SYD-1000 mi) seems to be OK, but to your point MEX-Shenzhen (SYD+700 mi) has a refuelling stop in Tijuana when returning from MEX. Would be better suited to a funnel via AKL if anything, you then get MEL/SYD/BNE one stop (advantage over LAX- no US entry requirement) and AKL origin...

    Hotel breakfast likes & dislikes

So it depends if I'm there for leisure or for work. For work I want quick and convenient, at home it's cereal and toast which is quick, I prefer that when away for work or something equally quick, usually I don't want to overeat at breakfast. For leisure, I'm much more inclined to take my...
