Assuming the 787s will continue flying MEL-LAX after PER-LHR starts, perhaps they'll offer PER-MEL-LAX and try to fill PER-MEL this way. If they can get the flight times to match up, of course.

Just checked a return booking I have in late Feb from MEL to BNE (always a 737). I'm sure I would have chosen seats when I booked, and my status hasn't changed since then (SG), but looking now, the allocation is gone for both flights and it just says Window. I'm thinking the status downgrade...

I've set up an alert on my phone (in the Qantas app) previously, and it's never notified me, despite the conditions definitely being met for one. Oh well. So from my experience, I'd say the answer is No.

I think the confusion is over seatback IFE vs "personal IFE". Only one plane has neither streaming IFE or seatback IFE. The plane juddles had (VYC) doesn't have seatback IFE but does have Q-Streaming.
