Using a decent airline with comparable quality (Finnair, Air Europa newer cabins) is one thing but using something lowcost like Wamos or HiFly is quite another.

Options if you want to fly to CGK in J on awards: 1. QFF awards aren't too bad on this route at all. Maybe the best international J route to get award seats on (except short haul destinations). Nowhere near as many Indonesians in Australia as Filipinos so demand isn't nearly as bad as to MNL...

I think I'll just fly 7.5-8k AUD EK F return out of Jakarta to Europe as a treat every couple of years or so. It's the same as a lot of J fares out of Australia to Europe and I can fly to Bali for a couple of days to sleep off the jetlag on the way home.

Unfair to list Jetstar here. Their business class is often better priced than PE and a better offering than most PE seats.

SQ are weird. I booked a MEL - SIN - DPS flight in December for 45k Aeroplan points that wasn't available at Saver level on KF, only Advantage at > 100k points. I can see return on EK F in November from CGK...$7200 to MXP, $7600 to FRA, $7700 to BRU (including gamechanger), $8000 to CDG and...

Iranian airspace shouldn't affect that much should it? Aus to/from DXB/AUH/DOH don't go over Iran, flights from those airports to other destinations should mostly be able to route around...

Pick the 1945 departure from DPS and fly the A380. The other departure is a 777 2-3-2 monstrosity. Not sure how much it costs flying into CDG but you can find about $4k return flying into FRA.

No real reason to book Qatar through Velocity especially given QR Avios gets first pick of the seats a little under a year out. 1. If you have an Amex Platinum then even with the devaluation you are still better transferring to QR. 90k points to/from Europe is effectively 135k points compared...

Last time I did GA on the way there in J and booked the daytime Virgin Australia flight back in economy. Flight times for VA are much better in mid afternoon, leaving at DPS at 0820 means a pretty early start which to me offsets some of the benefit!

MEL - DPS is usually bookable with 40k Qatar/BA Avios in J. Not sure about the daytime services but availability is usually good generally. A330 J, pretty good service.

SQ availability on Aeroplan is nowhere near what it used to be. Definitely nothing on Aeroplan to or from the European cities I can see. Even ex-Australia - SIN the only flight that's getting released to Aeroplan is one seat on the 0700 MEL - SIN service. Nothing from SIN to Australia either...
