    QantasLink Airbus A220 Discussion

Looks like Brisbane to Cairns also from mid June. Alliance seem to be keeping one arvo flight a day for many routes. I’m also seeing Alliance flights replaced with many more 737 flights. I assume these are the new 737s which are shortly coming online. Brisbane to Cairns seems to going 737...

    AFL Contract 2026-2031

The deal was reported by one outlet as really at cost, it’s the flow on revenue that is key, was reported to be up to $400m.

Qantas signs deal with Japan Airlines to exit Jetstar Japan

I understand they still need to report its NZ business to the regulator, it was a $6.4m profit after tax looking at the last report. As to what makes up that figure, and what doesn’t, is the unknown. Do I think that figure is an accurate (and real) assessment of the health of that business...

    Qantas’s next regional aircraft?

Around $3.5m worth of debt between those graduates. I know of someone who did the course, nobody in the group of 15 got a job within the Qantas Group, apparently they are not taking anyone on at the moment, the initial classes earlier on had high acceptance rate to plug a whole bunch of holes...

Qantas signs deal with Japan Airlines to exit Jetstar Japan

Who remembers this? Different CEOs certainly have different strategies. Joyce was definitely pro Asia back in the day. https://www.executivetraveller.com/qantas-to-ground-asian-based-red-q-airline-before-it-launches

Qantas signs deal with Japan Airlines to exit Jetstar Japan

I mentioned this a while back on the 3K closure, you can read between the lines in yearly market updates that it’s not profitable and relies on currency gains to simply claim its profitable. Looking at QF Financial commitments in the medium term, it’s clear they have no room to allocate capital...

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

The bigger revenue operators simply build it into the margin. You are paying for it regardless what payment method you use. Now the airlines will do this also, when they needed to drop the whole per sector per passenger fee scam, prices went up overnight.

    Please don’t be this guy

I once witnessed a bogan on a BKK-MEL TG flight, when the crew said we only had this one meal option left, he went ‘nah, I don’t want that cough’, ‘you got any other grub’ . Felt like I was in some outback QLD pub. The politeness from the TG attendant made me realise they see this rubbish so...

Virgin Bali expansion, next up CBR-DPS

Jetstar hinted that more was still to come with Bali so I’d say one of those above destinations are in the works.

QantasLink drop MEL-ABX and MEL-WGA from March

Especially when travelling as a family or party. QF at $400-$500 return, you can’t justify that when you can train it for next to nothing, plus have access to more frequencies, and it’s only 3 hours.

Virgin Bali expansion, next up CBR-DPS

This one doesn’t appear to chew up much aircraft time, seems to be a 2pm-9pm block on the two weekdays is all that it’s taking up, and the Saturday has downtime. They have pushed the Melbourne departure back a bit in the morning after it returns from DPS. Seems to be a MEL-CBR-DPS-CBR-MEL run...

    AFL Contract 2026-2031

The contract which was out for renewal is expected to be announced in the next fortnight. Virgin held for 15 years. QF is wanting it back according to reports. Lounges might get a little less crowded if they get the boot!

Virgin Bali expansion, next up CBR-DPS

Fiji loads from Canberra are around 60%, that’s going off the data last Aug and Sep. They have pulled back to 2 weekly, if they can maintain a similar passenger base that should keep loads into the higher 80s. Batik loads had been dreadful but it’s hard to go back and look at the data as I...

Emirates Wolgan Valley to reopen as a Ritz-Carlton Lodge

Well that’s my new learning for today, had no idea EK had a resort out bush. I assume council is sitting around not doing anything with the road as they expect the Feds to eventually cough up the funds and do it.

Virgin Bali expansion, next up CBR-DPS

They axed it due to aircraft shortages or something, but I think it was more the capacity dump from JQ doing nearly double daily across the week with A321s. I think with that and now QZ daily the market is likely full. Perhaps they could run it seasonal in peak holidays? No bilateral...
