    The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Yes, this is an obscure unwritten (until now) interpretation of clause five of the AFF general rules, which requires that we "respect your fellow members", so I took that to mean straw polls were binding (as a demonstrated sign respect) 🤣........... but seriously, if you can have fun, do it...

    The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

As this was a straw poll, I am assuming Deja will honour the poll...... so it sounds like only we can decide :) I vote upgrade :)

Maybe they have grandfathered?...... This notification has not been sent to card holders and is only on their card application page...... HSBC increasing credit card annual fees on 11/3/25

......and interesting to see their obligation in respect to informing their customers of this change: "Changes to fees and charges''....."that are not favourable to you"....."we’ll tell you by writing to you or by publishing in a notice." it looks like their job is done, notice has been...

Eligible spend for unlocking Qantas lounge passes

Correct,. Carbon offset needs to purchased against an existing booking…… it does not have to be your own booking though. Any family of friends booking can be used to make this spend with your card

Eligible spend for unlocking Qantas lounge passes

Yes, I have used the purchase of an offset (about 3 months ago) and it was my only Qantas spend and my Westpac lounge passes were triggered.

    Christmas in nth Queensland

Guessing it may have been a couple of years since you have been there (when they had the adults only pool). They changed their market to Adults Only recently....... Their policy page (Policies - The Reef House Adults Retreat) shows: "No Children policy under 16 years of age - The Reef House is...

    Fiji Airways announces Cairns flights

Qantas appears to have already been loaded with classic reward availability - 1xJ and 7xY on most (maybe all) days.

    Christmas in nth Queensland

Did not feel packed to us (Peppers felt more packed to me). The veranda rooms gave a nice open space (we did stay over Christmas as well). We were Diamond when we stayed some years back now (before it became adults only). Back then we got welcome drinks and free breakfast...... I believe that is...

    Christmas in nth Queensland

Key to enjoying the Cairns heat, pick somewhere close to the ocean - wonderful afternoon sea breeze...... it just does not penetrate much further inland than a couple 100m.

    Christmas in nth Queensland

My pick for the area and your criteria would be Accor - The Reef House Retreat in Palm Cove. Accommodation is great and their complementary inclusions are great. Really great food options in Palm Cove...... it does miss your beach avoidance request, but the beach does not interfere with the...

    Coles gift card offers

To compare a return on your investment, I believe we should look at a fixed investment. I just choose $500 as an example. I could have picked $1,000, the return will work out the same - you just need 2 flybuys accounts to do this for the example (so requires a double purchase) - from my reading...

Will you still earn/retain Velocity status beyond 2025?

I had a similar plan, Virgin Plat, maintain now, soft landing 2026…… 2027 beyond, target Virgin LTG….. got my Virgin statement, crunched the numbers….. cross checked with a Qantas LTG plan….. plan has now changed….. immediate drop of Virgin, full focus on Qantas. These changes have made me...

Article: If You Have a Huge Points Balance, You Might Be Doing It Wrong

Definitely think a balance is required. I look to spend about 75% of points earned and bank about 25%. Definitely acknowledge the risk of banking points, but I also see a risk of the point earning opportunities drying up (eg. when you retire, credit card earn opportunities change)

Velocity introduces Forever Gold lifetime status tier

I am guessing the new Forever system will be like existing method and will require the status earn over a rolling basis. So it appears this system will be on a rolling 12 years and 8 months basis. Credits earned outside of the rolling 12 year and 8 months will possibly drop off. Based on COVID...

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

Interesting? QR's Privilege Club, My Calculator, only shows Avios earn for VA (no QPoints). QF gets both according to calculator.
