The Master SQ Guide (Krisflyer, Waitlists & Waitlists Clearing)

I'm not an "expert" but I've taken this flight so this might be helpful: In case you weren't aware, you can use The Private Room on arrival in SIN. I had hand luggage only but even if you check in luggage, if you don't collect it from the Carousel because you're in the Lounge, it should be...

    ALL Accor+ Explorer Membership Discussion

I’m pretty sure that the Sebel Twin Towns Coolangatta has a three night requirement for Stay Plus. Unimpressive, I know.

Introduction - Software Engineer, New to Points

Welcome @Jezzabell -- you've come to the right place! In fact, from what you've written about yourself, it sounds like over time WE might be the ones learning from you!

    AMEX rejection

I'm most definitely in the camp that believes that it's not just about "Law" but about "ethics" -- what's right and what's wrong. Something might be legal, but still unethical (eg. putting down colleagues at work in order to get a promotion). The interesting thing about churning and the credit...

The Master SQ Guide (Krisflyer, Waitlists & Waitlists Clearing)

The "next best option" -- by far, and more than ever -- is to accumulate points in a flexible currency so you can transfer to whatever programme has availability. If you absolutely must focus on one and only one FF programme and your aim is Business Class to Asia and Europe, I'd still probably...

Best (any?) use of 6302 Hilton Honors points??

In many ways I’m a Hilton Honors newbie. I’ve been in the programme for years, since I got my AmEx Platinum card, but I’ve never really given it any attention. Over the years I have accumulated 6302 Hilton Honors points and I’m wondering whether they’re useful in any way. I live in Melbourne...

    VA's Audience Demographic

Interesting. If that's the case, of course, one would think that VA would offer contracts with even greater discounts! Interestingly, the AFF article that I linked to in my post above states that "most government travel is booked in a flexible fare category – usually “B” class for Qantas...

    VA's Audience Demographic

And why not? I know that there can be good reasons for business travellers to fly Qantas -- more routes, greater frequencies, and more lounges (which managers in particular might feel they're entitled to). But companies have a duty to keep profits up and keep costs down ... so why not fly VA...

The Master SQ Guide (Krisflyer, Waitlists & Waitlists Clearing)

Absolutely lock in the seats that are available while you can. There is a USD75 per person fee to cancel KrisFlyer bookings. It might still be worth it in terms of the reduced carrier charges and convenience -- but that's your decision.

Big Devaluation for Qantas Rewards on Emirates First Class from February 18.

It used to be that Emirates' Fifth Freedom flights didn't have the ridiculous $ charges, but I think they've closed that loophole now for most, if not all, of their Fifth Freedom flights. I'm so glad that twice I was able to redeem Qantas points for Emirates' SIN-MEL flight in F when it...

    VA's Audience Demographic

Exactly. I am VA's demographic. I don't want to fly Jetstar, for the reasons so well outlined in @Mattg 's excellent article. But I'm one of those people (and I do sometimes wonder how many of us there are on AFF ;) ) who doesn't have an employer or a retirement fund to pay for my flights. I...

Amex Platinum $200 "Dining credit" towards a list of Global Restaurants

No. The $450 travel credit is applied per membership year (ie. at about the same time the annual fee is due).

    In-flight Wi-Fi on Virgin Australia

No, I wasn’t quick enough on my feet to think of doing that! I next fly with VA on Friday week and I’ll try to do some proper troubleshooting then.

    In-flight Wi-Fi on Virgin Australia

I’m wondering whether anyone has noticed a change to Virgin’s Wi-Fi functionality relating to streaming video. I’ve often used Virgin’s inflight Wi-Fi to stream live or on-demand video, mostly using the Foxtel Go app on my iPad. Generally it’s worked OK — there have been some dropouts and...

    Melbourne Airport Accor Hotels

I stayed there last year and used the on-demand shuttle both to and from the airport. My wife was flying at 6:30am on a Qantas domestic flight. We had no problem booking the shuttle for 5am. Then after seeing her off I called and the shuttle came and picked me up to take me back to the hotel —...
