You know you are a frequent flyer when ...

I'm taking my two daughters and granddaughter on two separate trips in the next few months, one to Cambodia, and the other to Japan. They are amazed at how I can memorise the airports, hotels, transport, etc., to the point of being blasé. But what I do love about both of them is that "travel...

Baggage dilemma - fix or retire

It had a lot more barcodes and has never been lost. It has missed about 3 connections as being too tight, but not lost, touch wood. Ironically other bags have disappeared so my theory is they take more care with this one!

Baggage dilemma - fix or retire

Recording trips was something we had to do back in my corporate days in the 1980's. We had a bit of a scandal where some senior managers were booking trips but not taking them and getting the credit back into their accounts. So us plebs had to record our trips along with the boarding passes and...

Baggage dilemma - fix or retire

Sadly after my last trip, I thought my trusty Samsonite Aeris had seen its last cargo hold, and it was time to retire to that "lost baggage section" in the air. Coming off the carousel, the handle all but fell off and was quite embarrassing pushing through customs. But after the tear-down of the...

Does anyone here actually collect amenities kits as a hobby?

Well done, that is not bad by SQ. My only experience with them on lost items was I left an early iPod and Nakamichi headphones on the plane. Got to the lounge and hit me I left them behind. No more than 15 minutes after leaving the plane, the lounge staff said nothing was left on the plane!

Does anyone here actually collect amenities kits as a hobby?

This is my hoard of Rimowa, and after my daughters advice, I keep a few unopen. A few ring-ins here, but I have another three on-the-go that travel with me as they are good for cables, chargers, etc. I found the latest Qantas one, pictured previously, all but useless. All the other bags...

Solar Panel, Power & Battery Discussion

Agree, the conversion to electric, whether it be car or house, is far too fast. Working in the mining/metals industry, people are going to be in for a big shock as there is just not enough of the metals "out of the ground" to do these massive conversions. The amount of copper alone needed is...

Writer & commentator Phillip Adams has demanded Qantas remove the national airline’s ‘Spirit of Australia’ tagline from all branding immediately

And the "Spirit of Progress", unfortunately gone like the "Southern, Western and Northern Mails". Those were the start of my travelling oh so long ago.

    A new perspective on travelling – Post-Covid

Using eBird certainly puts another layer of planning on a trip, but in a fun way. In regards to sensitive species, I see that some common birds are on that list, which I will show a few in Trip 3. SBG is a great place to visit and opens early, but one weird thing in the UK is the RSBP and WWT...

Days 18/19/20 LIN > LHR > COL > MEL Lunch in a small quaint café just off Kings Cross, Casa Tua, before flying out. Arrived in COL, and the transfer desk told us we had a hotel room, but they didn’t have any way to get there. No arguments from the passengers. We just all hope things get...

Day 7. Back to work, but a great long lunch at Sweetings, on Queen Victoria Street, then back to the Renaissance Airport for an early morning flight Days 8/9 LHR > LIN As reported in the other threads, LHR was in shambles, but at least they rushed us through at the makeshift J counter...

Day 6. Hotels were a nightmare in London and the first I’ve stayed at a Novotel. With Wimbledon, it was crazy, and hotel rates were crazy. Had to use points to bring the cost down to a reasonable rate. The hotel was the base for the Junior tennis players, so it was bedlam. So down to the WWT...

Day 5. Purfleet, well, not many people even in the UK know where it is. East of London and really in the backblocks, their Staten Island. Booked the Royal Oak Hotel at 45 pounds, and a true experience! When asked about the restaurant, I was told it was under renovation, and I joked it looked...

Day 4. As it happens (although with good planning), there is a WWT (Wildlife and Wetland Trust) just up the road from the hotel. There are 10 in the UK, even one in London (more on Day 6). Great watching there, along with the adjacent Swanborne Lake. The best ones were Tufted Duck, Black-headed...

Trip 2. MEL > COL > LHR: UL J LHR > LIN > LHR: BA Y LHR > COL > MEL: UL J The work part of the trip was to give a series of lectures at a conference in Bergamo. Personal was to use UL and the layovers in Sri Lanka to do some watching/sampling. It didn’t work that way, but no complaints. Day 1...
