Competition is heating up in the extra legroom space! Increased carry on also it seems.

    Everyday Rewards Targeted Offers

600 points for $120 spend. They must know I’m currently on a 4 week Coles offer to offer such nonsense. See you in 2 weeks Woolies!

Virgin Bali expansion, next up CBR-DPS

Jetstar hinted that more was still to come with Bali so I’d say one of those above destinations are in the works.

QantasLink drop MEL-ABX and MEL-WGA from March

Especially when travelling as a family or party. QF at $400-$500 return, you can’t justify that when you can train it for next to nothing, plus have access to more frequencies, and it’s only 3 hours.

Virgin Bali expansion, next up CBR-DPS

This one doesn’t appear to chew up much aircraft time, seems to be a 2pm-9pm block on the two weekdays is all that it’s taking up, and the Saturday has downtime. They have pushed the Melbourne departure back a bit in the morning after it returns from DPS. Seems to be a MEL-CBR-DPS-CBR-MEL run...

    AFL Contract 2026-2031

The contract which was out for renewal is expected to be announced in the next fortnight. Virgin held for 15 years. QF is wanting it back according to reports. Lounges might get a little less crowded if they get the boot!

Virgin Bali expansion, next up CBR-DPS

Fiji loads from Canberra are around 60%, that’s going off the data last Aug and Sep. They have pulled back to 2 weekly, if they can maintain a similar passenger base that should keep loads into the higher 80s. Batik loads had been dreadful but it’s hard to go back and look at the data as I...

Emirates Wolgan Valley to reopen as a Ritz-Carlton Lodge

Well that’s my new learning for today, had no idea EK had a resort out bush. I assume council is sitting around not doing anything with the road as they expect the Feds to eventually cough up the funds and do it.

Virgin Bali expansion, next up CBR-DPS

They axed it due to aircraft shortages or something, but I think it was more the capacity dump from JQ doing nearly double daily across the week with A321s. I think with that and now QZ daily the market is likely full. Perhaps they could run it seasonal in peak holidays? No bilateral...

Jetstar Boeing 787 refurbishment adding more Business Class seats

Considering how new 787-8 D checks are to most workshops (less than 50 done to date globally) I would probably expect the first one to blow out a bit, especially with all the extra tasks. Will be interesting to see what type of silver they opt for. They have changed it again on the Neo, and I...

Jetstar Boeing 787 refurbishment adding more Business Class seats

Confirmed by JQ. Certainly a lot happening. I’d imagine the bill would be significant. -D check -Wifi -Crew Rest -Seats -Paint https://australianaviation.com.au/2026/01/jetstars-first-dreamliner-arrives-in-hong-kong-for-cabin-revamp/

Run some numbers for say 50% loads on an A320Neo for Sydney to Canberra. Nice way to burn some money and waste equipment.

Virgin Bali expansion, next up CBR-DPS

Virgin always seems to carry high connections around its network. Last year on a delayed MEL-OOL we needed to wait while 30 people got off quickly to connect to the OOL-DPS flight. DPS directs on Virgin can often get pricey especially in peak while connections are cheaper. Having a look next...

Virgin Bali expansion, next up CBR-DPS

It’s all about getting past the bilateral limits and gaining an extra MEL frequency. The day they get additional bilaterals approved is the day the Canberra tag dies.

Virgin Bali expansion, next up CBR-DPS

They should do better compared to Batik as they will be able to funnel through a whole bunch of connections. Batik was only doing around 30-50 people per flight. I think TSV would have been a better opportunity or even HBA.

Virgin Bali expansion, next up CBR-DPS

Will probably just use one of the two aircraft that would sit idle overnight at CBR, only really costing an afternoon in utilisation. The route will not operate in Feb or March.
