    I think I lucked the holy grail….

Well, there's always someone with a counter-example :) Yes, winter weather in southern US locations can be more impactful because they simply aren't prepared, and will take longer to do things like clear runways, and they might not have anti-icing capability, etc. But it's still quite rare...

    Platinum shadow seat

That's a bit silly though. Much better strategy (if you don't have EF to find a blocked middle to sit next to), is to find a row near the back with the window/aisle already taken, thus leaving a middle seat singleton. These are likely to be the last taken up in almost any scenario.

Qantas to Introduce Group Boarding and Bag Tracking

SG/OWS is Priority Group 2 in the new system, so by separating Priority into two queues I guess were following the new system in practice, even though the group numbers weren't printed on the boarding passes.

    I think I lucked the holy grail….

Oh agreed about the US in general, I was just commenting that winter is actually the preferred time for DFW in particular. DFW does have international transit for your luggage, but you still have to pass through immigration (and have/obtain rights to enter the US, i.e. get an ESTA or visa)...

Qantas to Introduce Group Boarding and Bag Tracking

Boarding experience at DFW on Sunday for QF8: * The AA Flagship Lounge announced boarding was commencing, but we arrived at the gate (after 6-7 minute walk) and they were only doing pre-boarding and only commenced priority boarding at least 10 minutes later. I find this slightly annoying, why...

    I think I lucked the holy grail….

I'm not sure what this means, Dallas in winter is great - it's a southern US city and the weather is benign and delays are minimal. In terms of the US major Oneworld hubs, where you should avoid in winter is ORD (and to some extent JFK, though it's much better than ORD). Do avoid Dallas in...

Jetstar nonstop services between Australia and the Cook Islands

This isn't that uncommon but should only apply during taxi/takeoff/landing? You should have been able to move forward during cruise to relax in a different seat.

    I think I lucked the holy grail….

This is true in some markets like Europe to USA, but for LON to Australia in particular, I don't believe this is market standard anymore. I'm seeing fares for early December (which is an off-peak period) for LGW-SYD as low as A$839 one-way on Scoot taking 43 hours (!) , and around $1500 for MH...

    I think I lucked the holy grail….

He's saying that he won't have a first class baggage allowance on his return from the UK to Australia, which presumably would be in economy (or at least something else with an allowance well below that of EK First).

SQ321 LHR-SIN Encountered Severe Turbulence [At least 1 Fatality and 30 Injured]

The accident report will not help assign liability, as discussed above - that is entirely not the point of ICAO Annex 13 reports. Even if we accept that SIA has responsibility for the accident occurring, my comment about proportionate liability was in reference to those who were not wearing...

SQ321 LHR-SIN Encountered Severe Turbulence [At least 1 Fatality and 30 Injured]

Accident reports prepared according to ICAO Annex 13 are "no blame" and are not to be used in court proceedings. This doesn't necessarily mean the plaintiff's lawyers won't try it on, but Singapore is a common law jurisdiction (along with the UK, the origin of the flight), is a full signatory...

SQ321 LHR-SIN Encountered Severe Turbulence [At least 1 Fatality and 30 Injured]

The Montreal Convention itself is not applicable to this situation as it has specific limitations to compensation for injury, death, and lost luggage. Perhaps the previous commentator was just referencing it as an example but not a specific instrument for this situation? Usually for...

Thoughts and Feelings after losing status

I will be dropping to QF silver soon and also dropped on VA earlier this year. I have one more international trip to experience a few Oneworld lounges in October, and then the drop comes at end of November. Considering the last time I actually qualified for WP was in 2019, figure I've come...

    SQ to operate into WSI

This is unlikely to be required, maybe shuttle buses will exist for the odd backpacker that books the cheapest flights on separate tickets without really understanding where they're going, but 99.9% of travellers will never go between the two airports. When do people go between Gatwick and...

Finding discount paid J fares AU-EU

Agreed they aren't on sale yet, I'm asking now so I can plan ahead properly.... but I know that the best fares may not be available just yet. Thanks, but J reward flights to Europe through QFF (where I have any points at all) are like hen's teeth and while I will do some work to pay attention...

Finding discount paid J fares AU-EU

Hello, I saw someone comment on here that paid J fares to Europe are possible in the $6k return range, which seems incredible compared to what the list prices are for major airlines. Can anyone comment on a strategy for finding these? My partner and I would like to travel SYD-AMS return in...

    Ask The Pilot

Sharp corners cause all sorts of problems when it comes to airflow. A basic principle of fluid dynamics as it applies to aeronautical engineering, is to maximize laminar airflow - where the fluid travels smoothly or in regular paths, in contrast to turbulent flow, in which the fluid undergoes...

    787 or A380 to USA

Speaking of being "in the way" , any thoughts on the last row economy seats in the 787? These are the only "duo" seats where my partner and I could sit together without a stranger. But they are right in front of the toilet - I'm not concerned about the noise of the toilet itself but wondering...

    eSims, what is your experience.

I used Saily on my recent US trip (from AUS). Worked perfectly, there was an activation step in the app that had to be done once in the destination country and connected to Wifi, fortunately the LAX Free Wifi, although notoriously dodgy, worked well enough this time. The only drawback was...

    eSims, what is your experience.

I consider myself a digital native and have no trouble with this sort of thing normally but had a really bad experience trying to buy a visitor a prepaid eSim from Boost, so I've been treading carefully. I did use a retail-purchased AT&T eSIM on my last USA visit, now I've just tried "Saily" as...
