Travel discounts Over sixty years of age in UK for non UK residents

You can buy it from trip.com. There are really not many other discounts available to non-UK residents. I'm visiting the UK in March and will be travelling from London to the North West to see my sister. My railcard has expired, and doing the maths, I've decided not to renew it. I really...

Best Australian debit card for overseas cash withdrawals?

Unfortunately not in Taiwan. The Easycard is ubiquitous and can be used almost anywhere, but to top-up an Easycard you need....CASH.

Virgin Au Domestic - Cancellation Waived?

As a data point, a couple of years ago I had to cancel a flight due to my wife being incapacitated with an illness. I rang the call centre (as a Plat) and just asked them to cancel the ticket (it was a Choice ticket, with basically no refund). I didn't ask for or expect a refund, but the agent...

    Qantas Boxing Day sale

Let's just say that I was underwhelmed by this sale (as I always am with Qantas).

    Scams like these

I get plenty too, but as I don't use cloud storage it's not too hard to spot.

Cathay now also bans OW FF from pre-selecting seats

Never had that problem myself. I've always entered my QF No with leading zeroes (paid bookings) and its stuck the whole way through, including into the champagne bar at the Wing F lounge HKG (RIP). Of course, this reported phenomenon is something to watch out for, but you should always enter...

    Cancellation options made very clear

Still not as good as VA, where it all happens virtually same day. Qantas is still the worst refunder of my main FF airlines, ie VA, BA, UA.

Velocity Status Benefits on Partner Airlines

Yes, this a real problem for VA. It worked well with EY, but unfortunately QR kicked them out. It's a real negative for me booking VA, as I have *G and OWE.

    Qantas refund missing

Yes, I agree that's very poor, but neither does VA. However, VA processes the refunds straight away. Qantas just wants to hang on to your money for as long as possible (or longer if they can). AJ's ghost still lingers.

Pretty good J fares on UL from DXB

Yeah, A330 DXB-CMB. I selected the one flight of the day with the lie flats, and it also suited my schedule better. Let's see if it sticks.

    Qantas Sydney International Business Lounge

Of course. but the timings generally aren't great. But, if I had the choice, it would be a no brainer.

Pretty good J fares on UL from DXB

I had a VA J reward ticket on SQ in May DXB-SIN, which cost 74,000 points and $440. Best I could get at the time. However, I was browsing Google Flights today and found a UL J fare DXB-CMB-KUL for around AU$860, which was cheaper than most PE fares. So I booked it and cancelled my VA reward...

Things Virgin Australia Does & Doesn’t Do Well

One thing that VA does (much) better than QF. It returns points immediately after cancelling a reward booking, and processes the cash refund straight away.

    Qantas Sydney International Business Lounge

Why do you think there's an option?

    No Business seats SYD-CBR

Recently, I had a schedule change on a J reward OOL-SYD-CBR, and was offered OOL-SYD-MEL-CBR in J, which I accepted. Much better timings too. And what's wrong with the Ebraer in J?

Eastern Europe Bucharest - Bratislava - Budapest

I think that's quite wise. If I was going to rent a car in mainland Europe again I'd do it too. But these days I don't rent a car in Europe (UK excepted, as I'm a British citizen with an (expired) British licence)., as the experience I had the last time has persuaded me to become an expert on...

Great prices from DPS - FRA on Emirates $4k r/t, $2.2k one way incl lounge

My limit for ex-SEA is AU$3000. No need to pay more for decent quality to Europe. I have a $2200 EY ticket in J MNL-MXP-FCO-CGK for April-May. And, from my perspective, the DPS airport is awful. Worse than MNL T3. As well, the VOA fee for the Philippines is a little lower, and English is widely...

Eastern Europe Bucharest - Bratislava - Budapest

That's true, but I would book Ryanair every time if there was also a Wizz option. Follow the rules with FR and you'll be fine (more often than not). Let's face it, FR is an Irish airline and Wizz is a Hungarian airline. You be the judge.
