Apologies you are correct of course. The pics of the Longreach surroundings reminded me of the 707 located there and thus the JT connection. I used to watch the Constelations crawl over Sydney flying into a stiff westerly.

Good news for John Travlota fans. I hope they set up the interior as it was as a passenger airliner, unlike the 707 on display at Longreach which is nothing more than a flying apartment for some Sheikh.

    Ask The Pilot

A hypothetical question, if you arrived at the runway end and switched control to the flight management computer would the FMC be capable of a full auto takeoff and climb to assigned flight level ?

. [/COLOR] My experience has been that passengers are advised to keep their seat belts on in case of unexpected turbulence. There have been many instances (including QF) where clear air turbulence has caused a sudden and steep decent leaving passengers momentarily weightless. Those who are...

How many FO''s are usually on the flight deck of an A380? I was watching a U Tube doco of a QF flight LHR to SYD and all the shots of the flight deck showed a third person sitting behind in the middle (jump seat?). He did not say anything or do anything and his constantly on sunnies made him...

Virgin Australia - Promo Codes (ongoing)

I am reading this thread in April 2017 yet the posts are dated in 2014 and earlier. Is this information still valid? If so what is the current promo code?

Qantas Boeing 787-9 premium economy seat

Probably more appropriate to call it "lights out".

Qantas Boeing 787-9 premium economy seat

Note that in this pic both seats are reclined. The difficulty occurs when the seat in front is laid back and you are not for what ever reason like using your laptop. Also has anybody noticed if the centre arm can be lifted up. Getting out is made much more difficult with the arm rest down. IMHO...

A couple of months ago two Virgin aircraft collided wing tips at Hobart. There is no push back at HBA and aircraft must do a very sharp turn to exit the ramp. The virgin plane was in the process of turning and his wing tip caught the tip of the plane next door. No clearance there.

Where do you think the two major aircraft manufacturers will head over the next ten years? At present Boeing seems to be playing second fiddle to Airbus especially in the short haul market where Airbus is selling three times as many A320s as Boeing is selling B737. Also Boeing has virtually...

Seen last night on YouTube - two landings where the nose wheel was stuck in the 90 degrees position. I think they were both 737. The first looked genuine enough where the pilot held the flare as long as possible and when the nose wheel finally lowered to the runway there was much burnt rubber...

    Ask The Pilot

Earlier posts have concentrated on the effect of aircraft speed on flight stability. My question is why do aircraft still rely on the ancient pilot tube for speed measurement? My old sail boat had a venturi tube to get rid of water in the boat, operated by water speeding through it creating a...

Will you use the new ULH PER-LHR?

it seems to me that there will be little difference in actual flight times. Consider MEL/SYD to SIN 7 hours then SIN to LHR 14 hours total 21 hours. Alternatively MEL/SYD to PER 4 hours then PER to LHR 17 hours total 21 hours. The flights from MEL and SYD would be all the way on an international...

I think the problem in Melbourne was that the wrong fuel was delivered and fortunately the error was picked during routine testing. If I heard correctly what should have been AVTUR was AVGAS. If this fuel had been delivered and tanked underground the clean out could take a long time.

I saw this the other night, absolutely awesome. They showed the aircraft eater gobbling up a twin engine passenger plane, it might have been an old 737. This machine had a huge set of jaws on the front and it took the plane to bits a mouthful at a time seats and all. The whole job couldn't have...

It may have been the new RAAF surveillance aircraft. TV pics show the PM going aboard and a but of footage of the interior. I think there are several more to come.

    Nostalgia

This is a very hard question to quantify. Some things took longer and some things were quicker. You didn't say what your mode of ground transport is. Things that took longer: Roads - The Tullamarine freeway ended well short of the city and so transit of the CBD could be slow. Also there were...
