Yes, I use TripIt Pro and the app works pretty well.

Check out the macrumors watch forum for a lot of discussion. WatchOS has just been updated, which should fix the slowness of third party apps as app developers update their apps to take advantage of the improvements. It's handy to have my calendar and flight alerts on my watch, and to be able...

Best credit card for overseas travel insurance.

I've been happy with Westpac Earth Plat Plus. They have great coverage, but have recently changed providers (from Zurich to QBE). I have a claim in currently, and the service has so far been slower than it was under Zurich.

    travel after foot surgery

I agree - I have only ever worn flats, but even so it is hard to find shoes that don't seem designed to injure feet (Allegria is a good brand). But even the best laid plans... My foot injury happened when I was wearing sneakers.

    travel after foot surgery

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. It's not a meeting I can do by videoconference and I was hoping to attend (it's our second leadership workshop after a major restructure, and I missed the first 6 months ago due to being on the other side of the world), but it is not the end of the world if I...

    travel after foot surgery

I will be having surgery on my foot later this month, and will have to travel from Canberra to Brisbane for a meeting a couple of weeks after that. I should be (just) off crutches by then, but still in a surgical boot. My surgeon isn't particularly happy with me flying for longer than an hour so...

Of course not - I get them constantly from my other banks. Just found the timing interesting on this one!

    Comprehensive credit reporting

Well, yes, but I have had the card for years and have always paid it off in full each month. This is the first time they have sent me an invitation to increase my limit, and it is for a 50% increase.

    Comprehensive credit reporting

Yesterday, I received two snail-mail letters. One was from American Express, confirming that I had cancelled my account. The other was from Woolworths Money, inviting me to accept a big increase in my credit limit. Was this coincidence, or did the first trigger the second, through detailed...

    NBN Discussion

Yes, those images illustrate the point very nicely: despite having a large total area, the vast majority of the population of Australia is clustered into a small few regions near the coast. We have a highly urbanised, centralised population, so the size of the country isn't an excuse for poor...

AirNZ results more impressive than QF's

Good to know. There were massive distruptions that day due to major storms, so it would have really stress-tested their procedures. Still, I wasn't impressed.

AirNZ results more impressive than QF's

This comes from my experience on a Sydney-Christchurch flight a few years ago, with a Canberra leg operated by Virgin, but all booked on the same ticket through AirNZ. It was a nightmare. The first leg from Canberra was delayed due to bad weather, then cancelled and we were put on a later flight...

AirNZ results more impressive than QF's

I don't think they are, but AirNZ operate as a discount airline: pay extra if you want baggage or a meal. If a flight is cancelled or subject to a lengthy delay, you are pretty much on your own. Once on board, they still feel like a premium airline, though.

    NBN Discussion

Do you apply the same logic to other basic infrastructure? Should taxpayers not being paying for my road, electricity and water connections? Should I have paid a commercial provider to run a pipe from the dam to my house, and someone else to lay a road from the major highway to my house? Some...

Where does your AFF username come from?

"Significance" has been my internet name since forever - or anyway, some time in the 1990s. It was just a word that came to mind when I was setting up an account somewhere back then, but using it gives me a continuity of identity across platforms. Since the internet is in some ways a less...

    Servicing of rooms

I stayed at a hotel in San Diego last year that offered $5 vouchers to be used in their restaurant for each day that you didn't need your room cleaned. It was especially handy because I came down with a (pharyngitus and fever) virus while I was there and spent a couple of whole days in my room...

    Servicing of rooms

At big hotels, I'd expect they'd have their cleaning staff working full time, 9am-5pm. So it would seem reasonable to me if some rooms and cleaned at 9am, and others just before 5pm. I was quite startled to have a knock on the door just after 8am recently on a Sunday morning in a Las Vegas strip...

Which Westpac card do you have? Perhaps it is not exactly targeted, but only available on their premium Amex cards?
