    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Yep, not to mention it opens up QF to non-Plat cardholders too. My last international transfer was around 200k UK MR points-US; I'd been hoarding them in case I needed BAEC Avios or SQ - well UK dropped SQ from 1:1 to 3:2 (whereas US and ICC still have it as 1:1), and Avios wise may as well go...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I've converted UK-US and AU, conversion rate is the same as the currency rate (i.e. GBP-USD/AUD) at the time - main motivation was just before Amex decimated the transfer rate here, 1:1 SQ (now 3:2 UK and 2:1 AU) with a boost of 1.9 or whatever the exchange rate was (probably 1.75/1.8 back then...

    Preventing AA miles from expiring

This is a good point, if the points post quickly enough. Not sure if AA have a hotel program, AS do and I used them a few times to keep a balance alive (originated with the 10K that all VX members were given when they were bought out, kept it going until I eventually got it to 30K and J HKG-MEL...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Indeed, it disappeared from being visible in the app about a year ago. Awardwallet still pulls it when I refresh my Amex US account though, so it is still in the account somewhere!

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I'm surprised MyUS will do it, they flat out refused to forward any "financial instrument" outside of the US - but at least my card did turn up there. Glad you've had no issues with Planet Express, but yeah even with the tracking number that (supposedly they) had signed for, nothing. The bonus...

    QR Avios boost

Not sure about QR, but I've boosted BAEC Avios transferred from Amex before (obviously not an Aussie Amex, but I'm near as sure the same principle applies).

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I've said it before, but I've never once had anything arrive at Planet Express, suite number or not, even when DHL have shipped it and someone's signed for it, they've denied receiving it. To me they're just an address, since they're not listed as a CMRA.

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Thanks, good data point. To be honest I'm not sure if it did, I can only assume so because it's got my Aussie address etc., but I did have to link my Aussie account to Global View manually (though that might be normal). I think it must have done, being offshore banking - I know I put reason...

    Revolut v Wise

Yep, and although Transferwise, now Wise, has never given me any problems, Revolut has been very trigger happy with blocking funds for weeks/months in some peoples' cases (longest I've been stuck is a few days) and for that reason I don't keep money in there. Revolut was originally used heavily...

    Preventing AA miles from expiring

Was going to say this. It was 5 points per day or something just for commenting, when I realised it reset my expiry date I was all over it, as I has around 60k dormant at the time, but I've used them now. But the bump is timely, as I have ~3k due to expire in around 2 months, not much but I...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Thanks for the quick reply! How long had you held the checking account if you don't mind me asking? Also which link did you use, was it the normal one on us.hsbc.com/? I don't even have the checking account debit card yet, but do have the account details and have paid some cash in (and linked it...

    Revolut v Wise

Agree, the only significant benefit of either is if you either want to hold or transfer between currencies, and to accounts in other countries. Wise USD checking account pays my US Amex cards for example.

I have a HSBC US with my AU address, how did you go about getting the CC? I presume Premier MC? Any insight would be great, TIA! Only just opened it (although been AU Premier for a fair while).

Best Australian debit card for overseas cash withdrawals?

MasterCard Platinum cards can be issued by any lender, most of them aren't forex free. The Commbank ones may be - I know the Commbank Ultimate Awards and Smart Awards MCs are (but with minimum spends of $2.5k/$4k monthly to avoid the fee), as are the BankWest World and Platinum MasterCards (with...

Best Australian debit card for overseas cash withdrawals?

I never realised that, I've always known both Aussie and UK cards to have forex fees...all other countries in fact, even Canada afaik...I suppose a corporate card it doesn't matter so much (unless it's you paying the corporation's bills!).

Hmm, not flagged as a CMRA according to this ZIP Code™ Lookup | USPS That's the only known issue I've had with addresses. I use Torrance (previously Gardena) too.

US Amex cards don't charge forex fees, if he has one (or more) of them.

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

No worries - I tend to do it in $2k blocks every few days in the first couple of weeks, withdrawing I so straight away, it's back in ANZ in minutes 🤣. Haha why doesn't that surprise me! I guess it'll live on for a while...we used to be able to fax from work using the MFDs that mainly print...
