    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Yeah it’s pretty easy, I haven’t had to call them thankfully - once I got wifi calling my US number roamed and I got the SMS, also an email with a link to click to Y/N the transaction, which I’ll bear in mind in future. 1733749423 Yep, DHL, very quick too.

    Made any travel mistakes lately?

British Heritage doesn’t give me any cold immunity, I’ve just been in NI for a wedding and I thought I was going to shatter all my teeth shivering, despite a thousand layers and a jacket over the top. Meanwhile there’s people wearing next to nothing on the usual UK Saturday night piss up...

    General Medical issues thread

You’d think, but my psych and GP don’t seem to talk to each other. The latter has to get me to advise re any medication changes, and pretty much anything else (which surprises me because I’d assume, in fact I’m near certain, they’d be visible in SafeScript - S8 stimulants - which my GP would...

    To Europe via Manila

Great trip so far, one comment re Grab, they do indeed take card and it’s much more convenient than cash imo. I’ve never been asked for cash by drivers. However, and this is Philippines specific, rides are absurdly cheap, to the point where given the cost of petrol there (about the same as AU)...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Mailing address would do it, but be warned HSBC are pretty trigger happy when it comes to fraud alerts - I couldn't withdraw cash from a HSBC ATM in Bermuda the other day because it blocked me, yet a $7 ATM withdrawal in Sri Lanka was fine. The good thing is that as soon as you verify, it...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I don't have the HK credit card, only the account so far (along with a UnionPay ATM card and Mastercard Debit card, no idea why both). No HK address needed, but they did ask countless questions and I had to prove I really was in HK as much as I said I was (which was easy enough as I have all...

Credit Card Offers CommBank Ultimate Awards Card: 100K award points – potentially fee free

This is the one I've been waiting for - 15% bonus to VA then on to SQ is better value than direct to SQ, but this is miles (no pun intended) better.

Agree with this - I didn't ever use Textnow, but ported from T-Mob to Tello, was done in minutes. 1733277984 Pretty well, but if the MCC is out, then it's out - I have a hotel I stay at in HK which codes as a restaurant - when I realised, I now use Gold instead of Green to pay the bill.

You don't need to meet the criteria if you meet Premier somewhere else, I have HSBC AU/US/UK/HK & Expat (Jersey) on the back of Australia, and credit cards with 3/5 of those.

    Strategy to obtain UK Amex

Excellent, sounds like someone made a bank error in your favour, collect a heap of Avios and a 241. I'd leave it, unless it doesn't turn up - worst case, add it to Apple Pay before it expires then it should update automatically on your phone when a new card is issued to replace the expired one.

Credit Card Offers CommBank Ultimate Awards Card: 100K award points – potentially fee free

OH's round two started crediting after the second statement, all appeared on month 3/4/5/6. I never cancelled after the first SUB 70k QFF all at once, the card was great offering no forex and no fee at $2.5k, and with my ease of spending forex it was a great one for raking in points. How much...

    Strategy to obtain UK Amex

Is it a BAPP? I assume your BAEC address is still UK? Because there's some rule where if the addresses don't match and aren't UK based, the points won't transfer - I don't have any experience of this, I've always left my BAEC and any help BAPP cards UK domiciled.

Same, was easy enough, I did it probably around 2018, when Gateway was 1:0.75 and Ascent 1:1 for transfers to most FFPs.

    Guided by the Stars (Alliance)

Sounds like you've had a hell of an adventure! Wanted to chime in re the PJs, VA's black PJ tops are my favourite, I have several sets from my frequent travels on their MEL-HKG route, all gradually getting worn out, and I'm sad to think I'll never get a new set (they were lovely when newly...

Are you a yay or nay to Avios subscriptions

Ha! That would make sense. I know the EUR/USD options were vastly inferior, wasn’t exactly sure why!

Are you a yay or nay to Avios subscriptions

I remember these, I created accounts for OH and I when QR were giving 5,000 Qpoints for signing up (before the Avios days); figured worst case I could move them to ALL, but it worked out quite nicely. Re OP's question, I've had a BAEC account for many, many years (before Avios even existed...

Qantas to operate evacuation flights from Lebanon via Cyprus to Sydney

Remember how everyone was complaining in 2020/2021 that people couldn't come home? That was the Government too, they controlled the border and capped incoming commercial pax. It's a lose-lose, I agree there should be some self-responsibility, but whatever happens it's going to p155 off someone 🤷‍♂️

Yup, also works for takeout such as Ubereats, Menulog, etc. (and some restaurants I've been to in Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, basically everywhere - even a hotel which codes as a restaurant for some reason). That said, interested in others' take on the Gold - I took it out for SUB, 20% credit...

This is what I was doing with the Hilton Aspire credit when it wasn't available for any airline purchase. Valid for 5 years, hopefully I'll use it before then!
