    Ask The Pilot

I expect they get a load of meals that they can cook up themselves. Believe it or not, tossing a meal in the oven and setting a timer isn't beyond most pilots. On long haul ferry flights we'd have one or two cabin crew. Whilst part of their job was to look after the coughpit, they were mainly...

So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

The boss decided to sell our (her) Range Rover Sport a couple of months ago, and replaced it with a Golf GTI. I’m now considering selling the Jaguar XE, and getting a VW T-Roc R. TBA on that at the moment.

Not very fast. 300 KIAS perhaps. It looks like a terrible bit of flying though. He shouldn’t have generated that downhill vector.

I suspect that the pilots didn't know, and didn't notice anything different. You could probably lose an entire panel. The FBW would compensate for any uncommanded roll input...within reason anyway. The panels are individually big, but as a portion of the wing, quite small. Which F18?

Melbourne to Athens SQ and Scoot

I'm considering at trip to Athens later in 2026, and am considering a mix of SQ and Scoot. Am I able to link the tickets, or check luggage through, if I leave Melbourne on SQ and then fly Singapore Athens on Scoot?

    Qantas A380 Slat Delamination

Interesting. Never came across any mention of this in my time on the aircraft. But, a slat panel should be simple enough to replace….as long as you have one.

    Ask The Pilot

Everything that I've flown since 1989. 747-400, 767, A380. They sometimes need some help, particularly with speedbrake, but they can all hit multiple speed and height gates on an arrival. Keeping an eye on how they're doing is pretty basic. The 767 was very clean, and had the most trouble, but...

    Qantas A380 Slat Delamination

Never heard of her either, but as I haven't heard of 99.99% of celebrities, then that's no surprise. Assuming it actually did lose something, panels are easily fitted....and are not unknown to part company with the aircraft. Any aircraft. They generally have zero affect on the flight...

Link Airways flight can’t get through weather, turns around and returns to Tamworth

Seems like a perfectly reasonable decision to me….

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

Ah, the good old days. Back when I was working (getting close to 7 years now), I mostly commuted to Melbourne from Albury on Rex. They had 3 flights per day during the week, and a couple per day at the weekend. Medical specialists in particular were able to fly from Melbourne early in the...

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

The airspeed and altitude make sense for normal operations in the diversion, so I can't glean any ideas from FR24. Well, you never really know who comes up with these times.... The crew that flew it out of Sydney would already have been out of hours for a flight to JNB when they landed...

    Ask The Pilot

The aerodynamic differences between a "fuel efficient" aircraft, and one without that moniker, but also from the last couple of decades would be in the low single digits percentage-wise. Their efficiency comes from improvements in the engines, which aren't all that relevant in a glide, and...

    Ask The Pilot

An airliner will glide about 3-4 nautical miles for every 1,000' of altitude. You experience that on every descent.

That's the Kiwi air force, so who knows. Presumably all of the Fords are broken down. Looks like the apron at Nowra. Used to be a lot more aircraft there.

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

It has little to nothing to do with the runway. When you need a medical diversion, there's discussion with Medlink about the actual medical situation. They will then recommend the place they'd like the person taken. As long as that's acceptable from an aviation perspective (i.e. weather), then...

Need a hotel room at 7am arrival - book an extra night or request for it?

I've even started booking the night before with AirBnb. That few hours between arrival and the nominal check-in is torture.
