I hear you. I’ve played this game before (getting home though). Ended up driving to Surabaya and flying to Jakarta, KL then Sydney. Booked a few flights that got cancelled, but was able to get the funds back via chargebacks.
Probably not for VA/QF/JQ. They are super conservative when it comes to volcanic ash. If the mapping shows a volcanic ash area, they’ll go nowhere near it.
Have a look at the route VA48 took compared to the PK registered aircraft flying DPS-PER
Interesting to see the Indonesian carriers blasting right through the volcanic ash area.
Flights from Perth look to be less impacted but I can’t see any flights from the east coast departing tomorrow (and I’m meant to be on one of them!).
I recall raising the issue of wetleasing when when QF started using AY who were using Thai based cabin crew with Finland based tech crew to operate services from Australia to Singapore (did I cover it all? I think so).
I recall being shutdown for being “racist” for suggesting that it’s wrong...
I’m thinking I’ll dump all my points in SQ for the 25% bonus. Does anyone know how quickly they transfer? To be safe, would prefer them to be in the Kris account by 31 Oct
I’ve mentioned it before but the absolute worst QF flight I had was a BKK-SYD where the crew were so hostile I’m surprised it didn’t escalate into an incident.
That said, have recently done a bit of India flying on the 330 and the flights have been excellent (although I did have to crawl up the...
For a married segment, yes. But I’d like a definitive answer on the “point of sale” claim that’s been made from a little higher up. My understanding is that award seats won’t have that restriction… but I could be wrong.
Do we have any clarification as to the validity of this claim?
I had a similar issue with a HND-JFK which had J showing but wasn’t bookable as part of a OWA. Tried after the fact to “change” to the J seat (that was still showing available) and given the “only for new bookings” like. Did...
This is the point I came here to make. The government abandoned and locked out its own citizens for two years. We’ve proven we have zero obligation to our nationals abroad (and the public generally supported that, as terrifying as it was). In this instance, we have a group of people who sadly...
Timing is the issue. They can’t use wet leased aircraft for HND and it’ll take a long time before they can operate their own.
That said, I don’t think the HND slot is the golden goose we’ve been led to believe. Japan is saturated and outbound tourism is simply not recovering to pre-covid...
Coming through SYD intl a few times I’ve noticed the JAL flight load is listed in the low 100s. This was a 777 as well. I suspect JL has the weakest brand of the operators to/from Australia, but they’re still pretty poor numbers.
Most of the emails from freq flyer seem to come from the Philippines with associated poor engrish (some of the emails I’ve received are downright embarrassing… “spirit of Australia”!). The Filipinos tend to use “already” incorrectly. It will generally mean “I’ve just done this for you”.
Has anyone had any luck holding onto the extended AC Gold? My status is showing until the end of 2025 and I’m happy to keep the card going to hold onto that, but not so much if it drops to Silver this year (only spent about 35k)
