St George Amplify card - $139 for 90k points (discounted fee via specific link)

Just to add a data point for those considering tag-teaming the St George and Bank of Melbourne signature cards, I had a St George Signature card about 9 months ago, got the 90k points and then cancelled. Four months ago I moved my home loan to BoM and got the BoM Signature card thrown into the...

    Qantas Award Charges Outrageous

This is one of the many points regarding what I think is a fundamentally specious argument re 'if you don't like it take it elsewhere', aka, 'you're using it, so you accept it'. QF clearly market (quite a lot) that you can 'redeem points for flights', they don't market that you can 'redeem...

Where are the power sockets? A QF guide.

Just noting that the V and Freq is 110V/60Hz in those photos. Most laptop and smart phone chargers are good for 110-240V and 50/60 Hz, but you won't want to be plugging in something that only wants 240/50....

    Qantas a330 downgrades

Oh, I certainly don't have a problem with a bus if the plane can't fly (e.g. ash clouds) or there isn't a plane!! :) I'd rather get to my destination than hang around in an airport or some squalid hotel the airline puts you in!

    Qantas a330 downgrades

I disagree - we are paying for a service and getting to a destination is an element of that service. Otherwise it wouldn't be a stretch to say it's perfectly fine for an airline to substitute a bus. Also notwithstanding that most full-service airlines (i.e. not LCCs, and there's that word...

QANTAS booking made, but I don't seem to have paid

It was a QF only booking, good to know that in theory it can stay held. However the agent was very assertive in saying that the booking was going to drop off the next day and I had to re-book. She said she couldn't even take my CC over the phone and 'enable the booking'. Take home point is that...

Double Status Credits (book by 5/2/18, fly 12/2/18 to 20/1/19)

I think things are a bit of a mess behind the scenes. I was chasing up an issue re this DSC via online chat and the agent said I wasn't registered as she could see on her system that I had registered on the 6th, the day after the promo closed. I was telling her I registered on the 1st and had...

QANTAS booking made, but I don't seem to have paid

Just to add a data point for fellow AFF'ers, I had a not-dissimilar experience last year - I was logged on and made a Qantas booking for 7 pax from MEL-CNS. It appeared straight away on my QFF login, PNR, manageable and all, however nothing off my credit card. I called and the QF agent said it...

    Qantas’ 787s [range discussion]

Personally, I'd prefer to see Perth-Munich or Perth-Dusseldorf than Perth-Paris or Perth-Frankfurt or Perth-Helsinki. Munich and Dusseldorf airports are both modernised, easy to use and centrally located in EU. Fits the bill in my book :) Though what I really want is MEL-HKG-somewhere central...

    Qantas Award Charges Outrageous

I think it's entirely reasonable to suggest the excessive QF reward surcharges are excessive and disingenuous to the spirit of a FF reward program. The excess charges unquestionably devalue FF points and with QF's notorious lack of international reward availability, it does make a mockery of the...

    Point Collectors Anonymous

Been there - got 4 * J rewards for the family from HKG to LHR with BA and there were 4 * F available and I had the spare points but thought, nup, need to keep some points in the piggy bank.

Yup, I've definitely noticed cash stays in my wallet longer since I first caught the points train. And yup, I can't seem to get off it :p

Qantas F Awards seats for 2

Agree, as only a SG I saw 4 * F award availability when I booked our family of 4 between HKG and LHR and return J award for later this year, from memory I saw 4 * F on both BA (HKG-LHR) and CX (LGW-HKG). Of course I was only able to get 4 * PE between MEL-HKG, but that's day time flying for the...

Double Status Credits (book by 5/2/18, fly 12/2/18 to 20/1/19)

I cancelled a booking last year for a voucher and the voucher had the same PNR. When I then booked a new flight down the track, the PNR was still the same. The original booking wasn't made during a promo, however I'm pretty sure that if it was it would have been just fine.

Double Status Credits (book by 5/2/18, fly 12/2/18 to 20/1/19)

That's what I thought, hence the phone call! The QF rep was surprisingly emphatic that the double promo would over-ride. For me it was no biggy, either 50% or 100%, it's all a bonus. By the same token, I may as well follow up as a second QF rep, in writing, confirmed I'd still get the double. As...

Double Status Credits (book by 5/2/18, fly 12/2/18 to 20/1/19)

I've had a slightly unusual experience, I had a targeted 50% SC offer the day before the double SC promo, so of course I registered thinking the double SC was a good month away. When the double SC promo appeared the next day I phoned QF to ask if I register for the double promo that that would...

    The Operational Upgrade Thread

My better half and I got a Y (red E deal) - J op-up at the gate the other weekend, BNE-MEL 717. Funnily enough I had wanted to try for an upgrade but it was supposedly a 1-class 717 so computer said no. Flight was re-scheduled 30min and voila, 2-class 717, only SG.

    QF 717 experience

I had it once, on a MEL-BNE flight about 18 months ago. I had an upgrade on a 737, can't remember which flight, but it was around 16:00 ish. Was the best J domestic service I've ever received, table cloths, surprisingly good food, several decent wines, and most importantly the staff were great...
