ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Wow they really only just want us to use them for retail spend. I guess that's how they maximise their merchant fees - the $9 issue fee via OW is not nearly enough. Just getting clear is that ATO via sniip or sniip proper so you couldn't say BPay levies (as DEFT payment was not an option)?

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I've just tried to get my "free" credit report from Annual Credit Report.com - Home Page I've been trying to enter my ITIN win the SSN field as I don't have an SSN. It doesn't like the ITIN. What has worked for others or is there another way that has worked to get this report? TIA.

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Hasn’t worked previously when I’ve tried. They’ve blocked that merchant. Shame as it would’ve been good & less fiddly $1000 at a time especially it now has no fees for debit cards and they’ve raised the daily payment cap from 5 to 10.

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

He didn't say but it sounds like he's put in very high income - apparently $70/$80K per month (not sure which currency that's in though he is wealthier than I am so it may be true but he's texted me so it might not be true) according to his text.

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

One more thing, a mate of mine who also has a couple of US cards & has an ITIN. He recently received an email from Amex asking to provide ID and proof of income. What will work for proof of income? For instance, I’ve been quoting the USD equivalent of the income shown on my ATO notice of...

Thanks for the heads up. I’m not entirely surprised though disappointed :(

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I tried to buy albeit MasterCards from the marketplace and they told me they were points redemption only. Which GCs will they sell you? I’m interested in this route before the currency gets even lower than it is and the multipliers don’t help as much as a result.

HSBC increasing credit card annual fees on 11/3/25

Hi Guys, I'm not a fan of paying high AFs and I know there's a whole thread on the Star Alliance card. I am considering migrating to the Star Alliance card with this current AF increase across all HSBC cards. Is there something I'm missing?

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Thanks for the heads up. Perhaps I need to apply for the Savor card, be a "good" citizen for a while then try to upgrade it to a Venture which is the card I have tried to apply for.

    AMEX rejection

Thought listing minimum incomes was just a way to make some cards more "exclusive" than others such as the Citi Prestige was advertising a minimum income with its $700 AF. Though I imagine there's a reasonable correlation between AF and someone's income to be more likely to pay the AF being...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

That’s what I’m hoping too. I find them a good bank to deal with but for their foibles all financial institutions have them (like puny daily online transfer limits, taking so long to verify family trusts as not criminal enterprises but legitimate structures, etc). It has taken 1.5 weeks to...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

re HSBC AU - while I don't know if it's going to happen, I caught up with a mate of mine who is a private banker with HSBC. He reckons the AU operation isn't going to be sold as HSBC has invested in it for the year ahead. It potentially sounds like a BAU strategy to me but just putting it out...

Thanks for confirming :) I think I will get started on ABG then with ApplePay.

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Just got approved for ABG today. I have the card details so can add to ApplePay and start working on SUB spend. I had a similar situation recently where I used Chase CSP with ApplePay in AU ahead of receiving the physical card and all my accounts were frozen. I'd hate that to happen with AMEX...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Thanks. Was considering holding ABP now I've figured out the 35% discount on travel paid for with MR points on their portal as a neat way to redeem on Qantas given I'm a bronze QFF so unlikely to get the J class redemptions I want. Though I'm thinking $A1000 is alot to pay for this benefit. I...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I've received an offer via email from Amex to apply for the ABG with 175K MR SUB. I currently hold the ABP which I'm considering cancelling due to lack of use (I think I did get 150K MR sign-up which is much less than currently available offers). Is this an offer worth pursuing? I've also got...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Congrats on getting approved for a C1 card. Which one did you get approved for? Did they ask for US-government issued ID or did they accept you AU passport? I found they shut down my checking account not long after it was opened - they didn't give any reason but I'm assuming they didn't like my...

How to Get My ATO Credit Refunded (Paid by Coles Gift Card)

I’m afraid your money is trapped at the ATO. Have to run down that balance with tax liabilities. It’s their policy under the guise of ‘fighting money laundering’ and they’re unlikely to budge unless you’re using an accountant and they have sufficient sway with the ATO to get you a refund...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Is that ‘domestic’ as opposed to ‘international’? Does Amex offer a ‘global entry’ rebate? I think it’s global entry which is being put in place for Aussies.
