They should have launched the new program on 1 Jan to avoid this issue of people being caught out by unexpected status downgrades. This year was my "use points to pay" year as I thought my status was secure until next year.

When I renewed a couple of months ago, my platinum status was extended to June 2026, and is showing in my account as such. There is no way I will qualify for platinum this year. Does this mean they will reverse my platinum status to June 2026 and downgrade me to gold on 1 Jan 2026?

I don't understand how this will work in practice. Terms says you will never be downgraded to Silver so status is still somehow linked to your membership expiry date.

Looks like an announcement will be made today regarding changes to the program. From what I can gather the dining discount will become a flat 30% and the free night will be subject to a 2 night stay. Comes into effect October 1.

I also saw this the other day when I made a booking. Maybe if you have a large points balance and have a large booking it proposes 3000 to speed things up a bit? Otherwise 2000 is still an option as at today.

The first option has more certainty. The second option I guess you just hope for the best.

If your old Accor Plus expired more than 31 days ago, nothing stopping you from joining in the Philippines.and getting your 3000 bonus points.

Lots of reports of it happening across various hotels in various countries if the booking was made with points. I wouldn't worry about it..... yet.

All the casual points collectors reading those articles will now wonder how they can redeem their Qantas/Velocity points for a minimum of 1.8/1.7c each, not realising that the only way to do that is with business class rewards which is difficult, and perhaps 1% of niche economy rewards.

It will be exactly as you described. I've done it myself and yes it is annoying and time consuming. I think it was at least a 10 min walk from the international terminal to the lounge. Note that the international terminal is boring so don't go through immigration too early.

It works the same way. The risks are also the same ie. the flight you really want could be sold out on the day or only has middle seats left. Also you can't prebook meals.
