What's your tip(s) for surviving the cesspool of Hotel booking websites?

I used trip.com for a return flight. They were the cheapest and even cheaper than from the airline direct. Everything went smoothly. No problems. I also booked a hotel in Canberra with them because of a special promo. I ended up cancelling the booking and received a full refund, as expected.

What's your tip(s) for surviving the cesspool of Hotel booking websites?

It's interesting how the way of finding the cheapest hotel rate evolves over time. In 2025 my method is by bringing up the hotel in Google Maps. It shows the rate on all OTAs including the price on the hotel's own website. Quick and easy.

What's your tip(s) for surviving the cesspool of Hotel booking websites?

This reminded me of Agoda's "book now pay later" scam. They charge a 5% fee for doing this which I only found out after my credit card was charged. I went back to check their T&Cs and found it hidden in their fine print.

Share your experiences and tips here. Mine are: - Stay for the evening water/fire/light/sound show. - Stay for the drone show. - The site is huge. I broke my daily step count record. - Expect to spend most of the day queueing. All big pavilions have queues. It's hard to tell how long you will...

    Seat moved after online checkin

This one. Too crazy to even imagine. Edit: I was being sarcastic because I thought the question I was responding to was a joke. I consider serfty's reason to be the most probable. The other reasons, like someone with a baby stole the seats and then cancelled within the online check in period...

Lol at all the wild and improbable excuses. Anything to deflect blame away from Qantas.

Uber drivers at CNS routinely cancelling rides to manipulate surge pricing

Uber was quoting $29 from the airport so I jumped in a taxi which cost $27. I was monitoring the Uber price and after 45 mins Uber dropped to $20.

Article: Why Frequent Flyer Points Should Expire

TL;DR Points like Krisflyer can offer better award availability because of their hard expiry date policy but the policy shouldn't be too harsh and there should be exemptions for people with genuine excuses.

500 bonus points on Uber Reserve airport trips - April 2025 promo

Beware. There is a reservation fee and a cancellation fee. I bet these cost more than the value of 500 points. I have no idea why you would reserve a ride from an airport when you have no control over the time you will get to the Uber pickup point after getting off a flight.

Uber drivers at CNS routinely cancelling rides to manipulate surge pricing

So the taxi drivers are rejecting a guaranteed Uber booking in exchange for the possibility that the customer may take a taxi instead? Sounds like too much of a gamble to me and doesn't make commercial sense.

JQ Pax attempts to open cabin door

It can be put down to simple statistics. Qantas has 2 flights a day. Jetstar has over a dozen. If a passenger was going to create a scene then statistically it will probably be on Jetstar.

Uber drivers at CNS routinely cancelling rides to manipulate surge pricing

On my last Uber trip from CNS to the CBD, my driver asked me if I was using a discount because he said the fare was really low and it wasn't really worth his time. I said I wasn't using a discount, which was true. The fare was $24.
