Back to meeting at 5pm in the hotel lobby, then?

The funny thing is, I am a bit excited. If I'd been asked to fly up to Sydney and attend a coughtail function for work this week, I'd have said, "no." I'm way to busy this week. But because it's a prize, I have found the time and am happy about it :)

No more flight announcements in the Qantas Club [Repudiated by Red Roo]

Sure, I can do all that without any real difficulty. I could also bring my own lunch, sit on the floor, and arrange a courier to transport my baggage. It's just that I'd rather not.

So I'll now need to a) remember these differences; b) perform an (admittedly trivial) calculation each time I fly; c) either set a reminder for myself or keep watching the clock; d) when my expected boarding time approaches, either use an app/google to look for changes or walk across the room to...

No more flight announcements in the Qantas Club [Repudiated by Red Roo]

Does it have boarding times or just departure times? Departure times are much less useful, as time from boarding to departure depends in practise on the airport and aircraft.

More screens, and larger, too, for those of us with imperfect eyesight. Does anyone know of an iPhone app which will give me a buzz when my flight starts boarding? Or at least show the current boarding time estimates so I won't need to keep getting up out of my seat to look at the screens...

Okay. Is anyone familiar with the Sofitel lobby? Is it small or quiet enough that it will be obvious who our fellow frequent flyers are, or do we need to exchange phone numbers or descriptions by private message?

I'll be arriving at 14:10 on QF1478. Happy to share a cab or else just take the train and meet at the hotel. Tossing up whether to put in a leave application for the afternoon off work or whether to count it as unofficial time in lieu, since I worked all long weekend. Hmm.

Mine was: "At first, the obvious things came to mind: an exhaustive media and ebook library, my husband, a Neil Perry-inspired menu, an onboard masseuse and a good collection of electronic board games. But: No, wait! If I take *nothing* but a good supply of paper and pens then perhaps I'll...

Be first to see the new Qantas Frequent Flyer 'Curiosity' campaign [on June 13th]

Yes, I'd like to arrive as part of a contingent. I'll be heading up from Canberra, if the details work out, so I'll check back in once I know when and where I'll be :)

Hurrah! I'm one of the lucky winners. Who else has one of the coveted invitations?

That's interesting. I have some old silver tags collecting dust. How much do they fetch on ebay?

Mixed experience with VA, and 22 hours to Christchurch!

No, this was Wednesday 29th of May. We were booked on NZ 884, which ended up departing Sydney at 11:03am (originally scheduled for 9:30am, so it was delayed, but not delayed long enough for us to make it, given the long delay getting in from Canberra).

Mixed experience with VA, and 22 hours to Christchurch!

Ahead of a trip to NZ to visit a gravely ill relative, I decided recently to splash out an purchase a Virgin Lounge membership. The first-listed benefit of lounge membership on the web-page is reciprocal access to Air NZ lounges on code-share trans-Tasman flights, so I knew it would be...

Frequent flyer points on a Government (PATS) funded flight

For me, status points and resulting privileges are a bigger incentive than points ever were. I travel a lot more often for work than I do for leisure, so being able to get a good seat and sit in the lounge before my flight is worth more to me than accumulating points (which according to our...

How wealthy do you need to be to buy your own J or F ticket?

According to this calculator (http://martincjones.squarespace.com/posts/2013/3/28/equivalised-income-how-do-you-compare-to-other-australians.html), my household income is in the top 2 or 3% in Australia. I have no debts, having recently finished paying off my mortgage, and my living expenses are...

The not so great overseas trip!

Unless they are planning a similar trip themselves, your friends are just being polite when they ask how the trip was. If you are passionately happy about something you did -- something new and different -- they might want to hear about it. If you can give an entertaining disaster story or a WTF...

    EDR Targeted Bonus Point Promotions

I was pleasantly surprised to get 20cpl off when I refilled our car the other day. We only fill the tank once a month or so, so most of our EDR fuel vouchers don't get used, but the $5 discount was nice. I routinely activate offers when they come in, just in case I meet the criteria, but I don't...
