How close to departure did you put in the request?

We've got 44hrs of long haul (in F and J) at the end of the year with what will be a 6 month old. Will need to try at least 1 domestic trip prior to that to work things out... All classic rewards though so shouldn't have an issue adding him to the bookings (soon!).

They occasionally serve lasagna from the Brisbane 'cantina' bar, has been imo one of the better meals.

On the topic of sweet breakfasts, I had the waffles on a morning BNE to SYD service last week. Was pretty sugary but very tasty. The other option was a chicken sausage English brekky thing which I've had before and didn't enjoy a lot.

I definitely agree that status with VA is very easy relative to QF. I unintentionally reached (and retained) SG with family pooling and a couple of sale J fares to Melbourne. Having said that though what VA offers with status is less too without an alliance.

Yeah definitely a downside to J is less seats to choose from in this case. Although if you want an easy upgrade the last couple of flights are usually good since everyone does want to fly forward 😅

My understanding is QF are short on A330s due to maintenance which is causing a few equipment shuffles.

I guess we're willing participants in the program for all its benefits and flaws, no-one is being forced to earn and burn points. Personally, we're using up the last of our points over the next year or two until we have to start paying for Junior Fletty, as I think getting 3 seats will be next...

Unfortunately the system is geared against multiple seats (especially families if that's 3+) that can't book at short notice or under flexible arrangements, especially in premium cabins. There's no secret answers to it, unless you can release flights as a WP (and even then YMMV).

Seems odd that they would recalculate the CR+ off the current amount and refund that? That would allow you to book a CR+ on sale and then cancel it closer to the date when the price had risen? Maybe the fact you're splitting it out from a return to a one-way has this effect.

Still decent value though, beats 10hrs in whY!

Out of curiosity, how many points did you spend in total for SYD-HND then?

You can upgrade on the behalf of a family member on the website, but the upgrade is assessed at their status, not yours (unless you're P1).
