Booking double up - poor advice from Qantas costs [now sorted with refund promised]

OR.. to be able to hold a fare for 24 hours. It is the airlines choice WHICH of those to offer. I couldn't name an airline off the top of my head offering the hold rather than the 24 hr cancel...but it is unwise to assume all airlines "have" to offer the 24 hr cancel.

Changing a transit flight between SYD & MEL

That will depend on the specific fare conditions of your ticket...

PR MEL/SYD - LHR in J return $4999; one way $2999, plus Asia from $549 in Y return

And to complete the circle. The check in and flight experience at BOTH ends was very good. We were travelling to the "2019 Australasian IPSC Match" ( a very large pistol shooting comp - over 900 competitors from around the world) . Staff at Sydney were friendly, helpful..AND (shock!) KNEW...

Seeking advice: US ESTA for transit

And that is a good bit of advice that sometimes seems to be less well known!

    High peak season airfare ripoffs

That seems relatively easy to explain..... non stop flights nearly always command a premium...(How much to fly one way AKL-LAX on the same day?) ….add in the fact its a one way AND the necessity to depart from a different COUNTRY to get the better pricing and Im sure other factors come into play...

Seeking advice: US ESTA for transit

It is not requested..it is required....as already mentioned there is no (or very little) actual "Transit" possible through the US (I believe several airports have sterile transit procedures for some I-I transits but it is certainly not widespread)...it is due to the way most US airports are...

    Especially for purely recreational aircraft....

Worlds first all electric plane takes off.

Aren't we going to need a "propellor to jet" type of leap in battery technology to make this a realistic proposition?

Those wise old sayings! (and the not so wise and not so old)

This one is a wise saying... but is used in a mistaken and not-so-wise way by many.... ;) "The exception proves the rule" People say that in the sense that the exception confirms the rule... which is of course ridiculous... "Proves" in that saying is the other, older meaning of...

What is wrong with people? [Why does getting on a plane make some people so dumb?]

Bill Engvall summed it up nicely... "They check their brains with their luggage"

    International Driving Permits/Licences

Who suggested that? Like many (most?) my understanding is that IDL's are only required when the license uses a different alphabet (or syllabary) from the country being visited.

    Access to a GDS

Far simpler to establish a relationship with a TA who is prepared to book from ITAmatrix itineraries... Be warned though...not everything you find on ITA is actually able to be booked....

    Qantas PE to Honolulu?

That's not my experience at all with US based airlines... I am aware of prospective PASSENGERS who got that wrong, thinking "Comfort +" or "Economy Plus" or whatever WERE Premium Economy- suffering the obvious disappointment and then whining........ but I never saw UA (for instance) advertise...

Qantas we need you [to service Cairns Internationally]

Maybe so... but if you CHOOSE to live in such a place , don't you have to accept the limitations that come with that choice? We seem to have a fair number of people in this country who voluntarily live in out of the way - or even remote - places who somehow expect access to all the same...

    Pilotless flying

I was watching a short youtube doco about Skylab...and (due to damage at launch) the first mission onboard was one of repair..... comments were made that THAT was the huge benefit of manned programs rather than unmanned. People can improvise and adapt....
