Article: Strategies for Cheap Business Class Flights to Europe

Thanks Flight 2 is 10pm, and there are regular Qantas flights out of Syd from 630am onwards so I could do that… Long time to hang around in Brisbane with luggage, but it makes total sense

Article: Strategies for Cheap Business Class Flights to Europe

I know that the standard precaution is to do Aus -> Asia, close to 24h layover, then Asia -> Europe,, when taking advantage of cheap J flights out of Asia I’m looking at 1. SYD -> eg BNE or ADL (either Qantas or Virgin points or cash) 2. BNE-DOH then onwards (QR Avios) What is the recommended...

Are Air Canada Points still useful ex Australia?

Where are you seeing this ?? I'm looking through United, for SYD/BNE/KUL to IST in September 2026. Either 1 or 2 pax. Only showing economy, and no TK (all routes go through SIN via Singapore Airlines +/- Virgin if starting in SYD)

Are Air Canada Points still useful ex Australia?

So are you putting Perth - Mauritius - London into the aeroplan engine to get this on one ticket ?

Are Air Canada Points still useful ex Australia?

Yeah I was thinking of doing IST return and looking at ATH - IST ?even by ferry ? But bizarrely KUL to IST is coming up with squat via TK (even when searching via United) which is just bizarre as KUL appears to be their main hub out of Australia When booking for 4, my other concern is eg if I...

Are Air Canada Points still useful ex Australia?

But to do this - I'm looking at Sydney to Perth (~5h). Then 24h in a hotel to ensure the next leg is safe. Then Perth - Mauritius - Rome. Another 24h and another hotel. Then Rome to final euro destination... The hotel cost is not a big deal, but that sort of itinerary makes it a 3-4 day journey...

Are Air Canada Points still useful ex Australia?

Well having trawled through most of those options, I’m coming up with basically nothing for September 2026 SYD to either IST or ATH Anything I find is either fully Y or at most one short leg J and the rest Y; or if there are full Y legs I assume I’m basically paying cash as the points are 400k...

Are Air Canada Points still useful ex Australia?

Family, but in guessing it might be too ambitious to get 4 reward seats… Thanks, will sign up to United to take a look I couldn’t see anything from Perth to Istanbul or Athens; but tbh Syd - Perth then another ?2 stops to Europe might be a bridge too far for the family Thanks, will try this too

Are Air Canada Points still useful ex Australia?

So call AC and ask them to look for TK flights on your dates using points ? Any suggestions for which tool works well at the moment ? Seems to be a rapidly changing space I have a stash of card points that I dumped into AC a few months ago in anticipation of a trip that didn't eventuate. Now...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Check to see if the airline partners are worth it for you - wasn't for me. It's a much more limited selection compared with Chase or C1

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

To add to the C1 whingeing, C1 is quite painful with transfers if you have a non standard name. I’m currently struggling to move points to Aeroplan (despite having no issues with Amex to Aeroplan)

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I'm going to start making some token US stock purchases to see if that gets them off my back I must say their web app is quite painful to use... it's like it's running on a 486 powered by a hamster wheel keeping the dialup modem going

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

@nthd_nthd did iBKR seem ok with you using them purely for currency conversion ? I just got this in the last few days (funnily enough!) IBKR has noticed that your account is being used primarily for currency conversion at this time. As your account is a brokerage account, it is IBKR’s policy...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I found Wise stupid (eg charged me a fee to send money via Fastpay/NPP from Aus Wise back to my Aus NAB account). If you can keep $3k sitting in the iBKR account, each forex transaction is ridiculously cheap (~$1) compared to Wise

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

iBKR is dirt cheap. Requires a minimum retained balance in the account however (I think $3k)
