    QF Platinum Recognition on flights

I (P1) and my companions (platinum) rarely get a special welcome, domestic or international, Y or J. More often than not it'll be a quick 'Welcome back' upon boarding and then no special treatment at all.

QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

Darn, would QF release some later on? I'm going to be in the market for a couple too.

    MEL taxi scam

In the international arrivals hall yesterday, there was a huge electronic billboard warning people not to accept taxi rides and that they weren't authorised. A terrible first impression (aside from the huge queues for the SmartGate kiosks). I remain convinced they could do something about it but...

Status of status credits for a "no show"

Happy anniversary to the two of you! Regardless of the reason for not making a flight, you’ll only earn status credits and points for those you actually take.

What makes a good airport and what's your favourite?

In general agreeance with the top contenders mentioned so far. Features that do it for me: Short (or no) queues for check in, security, immigration, boarding (or enforced priority) Staff at the above that aren't Gestapo-like Clear signs Ample, clean toilets Water fountains High ceilings Good...

    Ask The Pilot

Is that a case of some airlines / individual pilots having shall we say higher risk tolerances? And it wouldn’t just be specific to LHR right?

IFE broken QF2, what to expect

These are my observations too with IFE use. Had an issue recently which needed rebooting for everyone but they eventually fixed it. I wasn’t using the IFE myself but the other two-thirds would have been annoyed not to get it back online.

Cash or Card? Countries where you still need cash.

Cash for public transport, hawkers and most market stalls, although some of the latter take Mastercard/Visa. Otherwise your points-earning American Express is welcome at major/Western-type retailers and Grab for getting around. EDIT: Reportedly you can also use Visa/MC for the MRT, but not BTS.

Taken Two x General Lounge Invitations expiry 1 November

Is it possible they're restricting pass usage for the J lounge because it currently has to absorb F lounge pax too?

    Qantas 787-9 flying PER-LAX non-stop

Even in J (in fact even if there was F and I was the only one in it), both departure and arrival times are most unappealing.

Virgin Australia changes to carry on baggage allowance effective 2 Feb 2026

You're right, I missed that. Here's the screenshot from the 'updated' email I received at 7:54 pm (so I don't post in haste and muck up the text as I did initially). Even though it says fare type and membership level, the checked allowances here are only about the latter.

    Qantas Complimentary Lounge Pass Discussion

Based on people’s reports it’s more likely it’s peak season and they restrict lounge pass use then, rather than your flying history or status.

Sending in positive feedback on FA's or airport staff to airlines

The embarrassing, educational experience of getting "corrected" by a local

I'm getting the sense at at least when it comes to French, they don't really appreciate our making a good-faith attempt or some token words? Which goes against my instinct of trying, as opposed to demanding and expecting every Earthling to speak English?
