I use expert flyer for showing "available" seats quite a bit while looking for upgrade bids..often on PER routes at least up to 24 hours before departure I would say upgrade available seats are between 50 and 75 percent for biz cabin assuming expert flyer is correct

Maybe it's because we see upgrade spend figures, then we see constant devaluation in experience,higher costs to pax then we see what comes out as the solution. Let's be honest, it does look somewhat laughable. But hey I'm sure VA know what they are doing ...🤭

I should imagine separate bookings as you suggest would be very very expensive? QR directly for booking option of course but not really getting the same mileage and SC. Don't know why one can't book on VA the full flight. Limited choices only? How about to London or Paris then a separate booking...

Well they do ..sometimes at 300 dollars or more in my routes ex Perth!! 🤭...so it's not really "free". 😕

Is short checking of bags from Australia to Hong Kong but requesting bag pick up in SIN en route and re checking the following day ok? Want the bag for the overnight stop at SIN and happy to re check in the following day.
