Bankwest Qantas World MC 90k bonus, $6k spend in 3 months, $135 first year annual fee, exp 31 August 2019

So that touch of the file is usually assumed to be an application risk... I suspect @woodyren must look good (for credit) enough that the very recent touch isn't treated by the lenders as a red flag.

Bankwest Qantas World MC 90k bonus, $6k spend in 3 months, $135 first year annual fee, exp 31 August 2019

That's very interesting. I assume that means that the "touch" of the credit file by the lender during an application doesn't show up in the file for some time. I was wondering about this just the other day!

Well, no, but it's connected to the red kangaroo...

I can confirm that a test on a new card from the west with a kangaroo worked for Canberra: points shown on statement issued a few days ago.

Absolutely. The only part you left out is how long the phone queues are!

Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

This is the problem: if you actually talk about cancelling, they aren't legally allowed to incentivise at all under the changes in law. Not a word. What surprised me was that this was the approach taken even when I was careful to talk in terms of "assessing my priorities", "wanting to understand...

Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

As my Platinum Edge is almost useless to me now, post-devaluation, I called up today to discuss the fact that my annual anniversary is approaching... Nothing. They were happy to downgrade me to another points-earning card with no/lower fee. They wouldn't negotiate on anything else. "Australian...

Bankwest Qantas World MC 90k bonus, $6k spend in 3 months, $135 first year annual fee, exp 31 August 2019

The bank's use of the term "credit score" could easily just be a shorthand way of saying "data contained within your credit file [does not match our lending criteria]".

My goodness BW is, um, rigorous with applications... 8 days after application I've had a 20-min call, going through the details of financials with an unfamiliar thoroughness! (My household expenses are lower than typical.) And I still don't know if it'll be approved!

Upcoming trip to Taipei – Advice welcome on things to do, transport, food and accommodation options

I've been to Taiwan twice, with another trip in planning. English skills are generally weak (but occasionally excellent), but people are fairly friendly/helpful. Accommodation: The windowless room thing is horrible, but at the same time a welcome way to avoid the considerable street noise in...

JAL business class Melbourne - Tokyo. Is it worth it?

I flew up and back last week on JL774/773. Contrary to the original booking seatmap (showing angled-flat seat config) which was part of a discussion back in September, I was very pleased to find that the config was in fact E11 - SkySuite (even though it meant my seat allocations were changed...

Public Transport to our airports - what's cheapest?

"Vulnerable"?! The route is fine. The connection is easy. If you don't want to wait at the bus stop you can stay in the waiting area at the entrance to Broadmeadows Station which is manned. Broadmeadows isn't a wonderful area, but I've seen nothing threatening in the times I've used this...

Advice on connections quandary in Indonesia (ARD-KOE/-SUB/-SIN) on

Wings is pretty much unavoidable on the first leg. Garuda's onward timings were poor for many connection solutions when I was doing the original plan. :( As for a missed departure in SUB question... I guess I don't know. I'm not sure how SQ would handle such a problem for a VA reward ticket in...

Advice on connections quandary in Indonesia (ARD-KOE/-SUB/-SIN) on

Hi folks. I'm hoping those of you with broad travel experience in Indonesia might have some wisdom to share... I am booked to fly SUB-SIN-MEL on a Saturday in May; VA award on SQ (J). Dep SUB 18:40. I was planning to get to SUB (Surabaya) from ARD (Alor) as follows, sold on one ticket as a...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I've also had it confirmed in writing that they're not charging. But yeah, competence... not so much. (You'd kinda assume that a business wanting to attract customers would remove mention of a monthly fee pretty quickly.)

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Fascinating! I think they're a bunch of incompetents - poor documentation, poor support system, unreliable funding routines for manually added bills, missing links between desktop and mobile view... Today (6 Nov) their site still shows the fee. But it's certainly becoming more attractive...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Yes, but at $24.95 per month after the free trial, PLUS the 0.8% surcharge, it still has to be considered as a fairly expensive way to earn points (so it depends on the questioner's priorities!). On a monthly spend of $3000 through EBP, that's an effective surcharge of 1.37%. And if you're...
