    Scams like these

Many email systems no longer bounce undeliverable mail in order to work against the assumptions of the early/mid-years of spam, so confirmation by lack-of-bounce is no longer a given, but might apply to large domains that still bounce (Gmail?).

Significant NAB changes coming; no travel insurances on most cards from mid-2026

I think the above is concerning beyond the obvious immediate issues. NAB is now responsible for multiple prominent card brands, so it's reasonable to fear a "spread" of this approach to their non-NAB card portfolio.

Significant NAB changes coming; no travel insurances on most cards from mid-2026

I haven't seen this mentioned on AFF so far... Headline summary: Full details: Changes to your NAB Complimentary Card Insurance Policy The changes prior to 15 May 2026 are mostly minor fee and insurance tweaks (except excess increases from $400 to $600!), but then from that date the...

China Airlines reward seats using Qantas points

I think I've done this route seven times in J and the load has varied, but about half of those were definitely in a pretty-much-full cabin (i.e., I didn't count seats occupied, but a quick scan of the landscape gave a fullish impression).

Passport Holders, Neck Pouches, Money Belts and Shoulder Bags

Funny you mention that... In the first five years I had no such problem, but two trips in the last six months have both been characterised by "slipping cards". I'm now putting two cards per slot in order to mitigate the issue. Not ideal.

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

I was approved for this card on 30 May 2024 and the first statement was generated on 6 June. Based on other users' cancellation experience, in order to avoid the second year's fee does this mean I need to cancel when: the twelfth statement is issued (for me, on approx 6 May 2025), or before 30...

Credit Card Offers Virgin Money Velocity Flyer Offers & Discussion

Virgin Money is a brand under BOQ, but in fact the credit provider is NAB, so would I be right in assuming the application process is run by NAB? If yes, this would mean if you already have cards with NAB and/or CIti and/or Coles, it'd probably reduce your chances of approval for Virgin? (due...

    Melbourne SkyBus gone up again

Wouldn't want to overgeneralise on that... Just off the top of my head I can think of numerous significant airports in Europe that are not served at all generously by general public bus routes (IIRC starting with ORY, CDG, MXP, ZAG). (By which I mean non-"airport express" routes or similar; and...

The new strategies you need to find reward availability in 2025

I've been feeling increasingly despondent about the whole situation, as someone who has to put in a lot of effort to acquire a useful number of points, and who has no scope to plan holidays at shortish notice. I was right royally f@ked by SQ last year, effectively losing the equivalent of over...

Exactly! I'm jealous if I've missed out somehow !

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

There was still the possibility that the contact number for obtaining a certificate could be more efficient (or less) than the general number, hence the question. And as seen from @N860CR 's reply, no joy anyway.

China Airlines reward seats using Qantas points

I've commented on the MEL problem previously. Far fewer seats TPE-MEL/vv on QFF searches I've done in the last year compared to SYD/BNE. There are lots of Taiwanese in Melbourne, especially on Working Holidaymaker visas. Don't know about the other two cities.

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

Did you successfully obtain a certificate of cover? And would you mind sharing the appropriate contact point for obtaining it?

China Airlines reward seats using Qantas points

You weren't able to on QFF's site itself? I was able to for a few flights just a few weeks ago.

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

You have to wonder about the business considerations that go into designing and pricing this card product... Restricted earn, difficult qualification for the perks, and they want almost $500 to renew? (Not to mention it being HSBC🤮😡)

China Airlines reward seats using Qantas points

Really remember to check alternative ports, cos MEL does seem to fare worse, for instance. Not sure whether the SYD/BNE flights are generally better or if it's just lucky them when I've looked.

Sure, though I wasn't treating QFF as unusual, just naming it as it's my only experience.

China Airlines reward seats using Qantas points

As observed by others, availability is much poorer, seemingly especially for MEL. I've just booked YVR-TPE-MEL and it was the only business seat TPE-MEL left for Sept 2025. Inventory seems to vanish quickly and oddly: last week I could see seven days with J availability for Sept. Yesterday it...

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

Yep. This is that bank that told me I was in breach of its terms for operating my bank account for business purposes and it would be closed. ... A bank account that I had opened 15 years earlier, in my business name (as a sole trader), and had had to pay their fees to verify my business name at...

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

Yes, you can. You just need to present the card. I added my AC number to my flights last week and the entry kiosk still told me to go to the counter, so under either scenario, it seems manual checking is currently necessary in order to enter with Aeroplan Gold status.
