hotel booking sites that bill as an o/s transaction?

As a data point that doesn't align with the thread title but is in a similar vain (airline ticketing), this thread indicates that Qatar Airways tickets are currently charged as domestic transactions, even for non-AU-originating itineraries.

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

No lucky status for me... I cancelled on 30 May. Statement issued 9 June. Aeroplan status lost sometime thereafter (in the AC app it still looked like I had status today and I was hoping this would endure, but the moment I touched another menu in the app, my status refreshed as Peasant). The...

Cash or Card? Countries where you still need cash.

These nation-specific characteristics in Europe have long history... France was an earlyish adopter of debit-card payments with handheld terminals, while in Germany any form of card payment was relatively rare until the early 90s and actual credit cards were very uncommon for an average consumer...

hotel booking sites that bill as an o/s transaction?

I can add to the list (though it's travel platforms, not accom per se), that Viator and Klook both seem to bill as local (Australia) billers. Does anyone know for Expedia? My only transactions are truncated in my bank statement such that any country identifier is missing.

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

Your old Zip Plus? I notice that the "add payment method" interface even in Zip Pay (not Plus) says "add a debit card" but you can add a credit card. However there is a table on the website somewhere which clearly shows only a tick for credit cards against the basic Pay account and explicitly...

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

It's worth noting that officially, Zip Plus cannot be paid off using a credit card (only debit card).

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

Yes, the value proposition from this card is poor if you're looking to requalify for status. However, it isn't correct that "the majority of cards" still give points for government spending. Those days are from many years ago. Other than business cards, there are very few cards which give...

Public Transport to our airports - what's cheapest?

Bugger. Well, if they don't tell people loudly enough about a service, I guess they don't get patronage...

Dining advice - vegetarian strategy in J class flights

I'm very similar to @MEL_Traveller in my dietary needs. However, I'm a bit more assertive ;) Sick of the assumption that vegetarians have no taste (or in my case, no-pesc) I go for pre-bookable or known-menu choices where possible and then flag beforehand with crew that I can't do seafood. 70%...

    Coles Rewards MasterCard devaluation

Good point. I don't think I use sites enough (e.g. payment platforms, ATO) where the payment volume will make a big enough difference to compensate for the (smallish) annual fee, but I'll check!

Significant NAB changes coming; no travel insurances on most cards from mid-2026

Virgin cards are also seeing changes to travel insurance. So it's the whole brand portfolio by the looks of it.

    Coles Rewards MasterCard devaluation

I'm having trouble thinking of any reason to retain this card as I approach anniversary (I have the Virgin High Flyer now, which has the same earn rate equivalent: $1=1 Velocity point, and higher spend cap). I don't use Flybuys for anything other than conversion to Velocity. Have I overlooked...

Credit Card Offers Virgin Money Velocity Flyer Offers & Discussion

Adding some data to this thought from a while back... I just successfully applied for Virgin Money and NAB cards. The questions asked during the application processes were different, with the NAB form requiring more details about income and spending patterns. I applied simultaneously but...

Amex Business Card - 170k + 30k Bonus Velocity points (ends 20th of May 25)

I held this card briefly late last year. Very smooth. Just keep in mind that the normal 18-month blackout on bonuses will apply after you divest yourself of the card.

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

There are also mentions upthread of the Star Alliance account being closed. It doesn't appear to be immediate, but I recall seeing something in the terms on the Star Alliance rewards site, so worth looking at that or the card PDS. 1745498711 No

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

I overlooked your reply @Brissy1 , sorry. I can add to the advice you received, which largely aligns, though there's one important thing it seems you weren't told. When to cancel your card before incurring the next annual fee: Following an online chat with HSBC's barely competent agents...

Credit Card Offers Virgin Money Velocity Flyer Offers & Discussion

The weirdest thing happened to me an hour ago: I was approved for the High Flyer after only providing notices of assessment. Being self-employed, I have *always* had to provide reams of additional info, yet today the application was approved one hour after uploading just the NOAs. I have no idea...

AirTags Avert Yet Another Potential Baggage Disaster

I have two Tiles. I got them cheapish, which is the saving grace. They work tolerably, but not well enough to be reliably reassuring. If a bag went missing, I would feel confident that I would eventually know which airport it was at, but not necessarily much better than that.
