    Gates are opened.. ...and she's underway. To see this was absolutely amazing and fascinating watching a 36,500 ton ship rise and fall all by harnessing and engineering natural forces (the water is not mechanically pumped). Highly recommend.

    Yep. The guide said a control dam was built in the 50's to control the flow of water to the power stations. It opens early in the morning to let water flow over the falls and closed at night to redirect the flows to the power stations.
