    In my experience response time has always been extended (ie. anything from almost immediate to several hours). However expertise and helpfulness of these channels has always been first rate. I’m almost certain these channels are staffed by Australia-based staff

    Had a neighbour who was an Ansett pilot at the time and who had the exact same experience. The cost of the hotel in HKG at walk-in rates ended up exceeding the savings on tickets.

    Me too. Been thinking for some time that it was too good to be true. Only remaining option for free O/S transactions is Macquarie Black Visa (free as part of a home loan package). But they've recently advised they will no longer earn Qantas points!
