Peru & Ecuador. Machu Picchu and a Galapagos cruise with a side of southern USA

Day 9. Sleep deprived we awoke about 7am to the sounds of the city. It was then that I found out that I actually wasn’t smarter than everyone else as my chicken Diablo from last night exited the chat faster than it joined it. Great. But I felt better without a headache. Breakfast again was the...

The meals in the main are OK, but not the foody gourmet delight we’ve been told to expect. They have flavour and variety, especially the sauces. If we were up to paying 100 Sol per meal each I’m sure we’d get good stuff but our financial statement won’t support that level of spending.

Day 8 Waking up in a stupor we went to breakfast. Asking our hosts if the noises in the night were normal, the answer was Si. Well, that’s not good. Breakfast was included and was served in a small alcove on the ground floor. With 8 seats and e tables I guess they are working on not everyone...

Day 7. A leisurely start as today was off to Cusco. We had some time to kill so we walked the streets. Plenty of vendors out trying their luck and one sucked us in with cute little Alpaca toy things. Communication indicated they were made by her in town so 10 Sols was exchanged. As we...

Mrsmacca is making hurtful comments that she did a lot of walking pre trip and so has better lung capacity. Meanwhile I found other things to do. Not sure if her theory is strong but last night was a killer. Awake most of the night deep breathing through my mouth and feeling breathless. That...

I’ve been on the cocoa leaves in tea for a few days, but the hotel in Cusco only has cocoa tea tea bags. And they only give you 2 in the room. They do have a large bottle of oxygen here but I don’t think I’m at that level. Today climbing the San Blas hill it was more breathless and puffing. I’ll...

Today is Thursday and we finished the altitude sickness pills we got on Tuesday. The headaches hit hard this morning as did a bit of wobbles. The pills we bought must have had an effect so I bought more, but chemicals this time. 1 every 24 hours and the pharmacist Google Translated they were...

Day 6 With a 7am entry to MP we were up at 5am. The hotel is very accommodating and has breakfast starting at 5am so we were able to take our fill. Plenty of options for hot and cold and today the hot stuff was warm. Down the hill to the queue and it was filling fast. Today we rode a full...

Day 5 Today started at about 5am when Old Mate next door started chopping his firewood. Not just the firewood but the kindling too. What have we done to the world to deserve this?? Being on a 10:30 train we had a leisurely breakfast however breakfast is only served between 6 and 8am and you...

Day 4. We found out what a difference an inch makes. The closed window massively reduced noise and I did get a decent sleep. 7am breakfast and straight to the hot stuff. Which wasn’t. Today we were offered hot dog sausages cut into coughtail size pieces, roasted spuds and scrambled eggs. There...

Day 3. We had a tour booked for a 9am pick up so we hit the breakfast room just on 7.15 in high hopes. Today the fruit was paw paw, pineapple and watermelon, the potatoes were now chips, deep fried chicken wings and legs replaced the Mediterranean chicken and scrambled eggs were on again. But...

Day 2. Waking at around 5am to the sounds of the cook on the 8th floor preparing breakfast started us off. Breakfast started at 7am and we presented at about 8.30. The breakfast room is on the top floor and has an open balcony out to the world. The offerings were basic but adequate; cereals...

Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Akl-Syd. Did a points request upgrade discount Y to J. I thought I offered $270 and no points but seems my iPad glitched and sent an offer of $405 through, which was accepted at T-24. Still 2 spare seats on check in at T-23.59

    Hobart temporary lounge April 2025

So the ‘bar’ pre-noon is now just the fridge. No spirits I could see and not much place to stash them. Next journey I’ll be more alert but that’s a 0600 deal so alert may not apply. I’m going to cause a ruckus now; Boags used to be the best beer but since COVID Lion, in their wisdom, now brew...

Must be. Only new to the ‘Hood so not sure if this is normal operations. But the lounge is the least appealing of all main city lounges. Reminds me of the cupboard that is Coffs Harbour.

No joke. The young girl was adamant they could not come in with their business class seat, they needed to be Qantas club and some other status I didn’t hear. More food pictures? No, that was all there was. More variety at your average family Christmas party.
